Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Erin Ellis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Erin , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My defining moment in my career was hearing “you have cancer” at such a young age. At 31 years old I was faced with a daemon inside of me trying to take my life, but on the outside all I knew was to fight and survive. I never thought in a million years I would have been diagnosed with cancer at such a young age, but it was the turning point in my life. To say I was scared was an understatement, but it honestly was the defining moment in my life. I always wanted to be a doctor, but gave up on those dreams because I was sick of being in school, and instead worked in the bar and restaurants, but always knew I could do and be more. After 6 rounds of chemotherapy, a positive attitude with a side of determination and sass I became a survivor.
Receiving this diagnosis and kicking its butt gave me the drive, the motivation and determination to get out of my own way and become that doctor that I always wanted to be. Not only did it give me my defining purpose in life, but I learned a lot about myself and really how strong I truly was. Having had a cancer diagnosis at such a young age, my mission and passion now is to empower those to take control of their health now before it is too late. This diagnosis proved to me that life is too short to feel sub-optimal and given the right tools, your body has the innate ability to heal itself.

Dr. Erin , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
After having my cancer diagnosis I decided to pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor and attending the Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine in Tempe, AZ and graduated 4 short years later with my Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine in 2017. During my last few quarters of school, I preceptored at a naturopathic urgent care in Scottsdale, AZ where I saw a full spectrum of illness from acute to chronic and even emergent conditions. After 2.5 years of employment I decided to take the leap and open my own practice in S. Gilbert, Arizona where I now inspire women to be their best versions, help them fix their crappy periods, balance hormones and regain the energy they once had to live a happy and vibrant life.
As a naturopathic doctor I get to the root cause of their health concerns, but more importantly I provide them hope that their symptoms are real and they can heal.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Showing up. Being a business owner is hard, but much like dating, your prince charming (or princess) is not going to just show up at your doorstep. You have to show up. You have to put yourself out there. Being in front of the camera was something I would shy away from, but I quickly got out of my own way and put myself on social media, put myself in rooms where I didn’t think I belonged and because of consistency with networking and showing up, I have developed the ‘know, like and trust’ factor which has been monumental in growing my practice.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I was diagnosed with cancer I never gave up. I started my own practice in January 2020 right before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, not entirely knowing the world was going to shut down. I already knew I was taking a risk by leaving a steady practice, but what I didn’t know is that I was literally building a brand new business when nobody was leaving their house. I still never gave up. My marketing strategy changed a bit by providing more education, sense of normalcy and advocating that your health is even more important. This helped keep the doors open and by continuing to show up I almost tripled my income in two years.
