Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Erica Folker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr. Erica, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
At MVMT Performance & Rehabilitation, we proudly break away from the cookie-cutter, insurance-driven, volume-based model that dominates much of the rehab and healthcare world.
The industry standard? It’s often a revolving door: 3-4 patients per hour, one-size-fits-all treatments, and burned-out clinicians operating like robots. You’re lucky if you get 10 minutes of actual time with a provider. That’s not care — that’s a factory.
What we do instead is personal, focused, and quality connections with other humans.
We give our patients 100% personalized, one-on-one treatment sessions — every time. No techs, no fluff, no playing “guess what hurts today.” We focus on the whole person, not just the site of pain. Our goal isn’t just to “fix” pain, it’s to empower people with the tools, education, and mindset to take care of themselves for the long haul.
And let me tell you — that difference matters.
Take a CrossFit athlete we worked with who had chronic shoulder pain for years. They bounced from ortho to PT to chiro with no real answers — just passive treatments and “take a break” advice. Within 3 sessions at MVMT, we not only helped them lift pain-free but taught them why the pain was happening and how to own their rehab. They’re now stronger than ever and have become an advocate for others in their gym to stop settling for “meh” care.
The best part?
We don’t just treat pain — we change the story people tell themselves about their bodies. Our patients walk out feeling in control instead of dependent. That’s not standard. That’s MVMT.

Dr. Erica, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Dr. Erica, founder of MVMT Performance & Rehabilitation, and I help active adults and fitness athletes get out of pain, stay out of pain, and get back to doing what they love — without relying on pain meds, generic protocols, or being told to “just rest.”
I got into this field the way a lot of great journeys start: with a mix of curiosity, frustration, and a refusal to accept the status quo. As an athlete growing up, I saw teammates constantly sidelined by injuries and bounced between providers who didn’t really understand movement. Even worse, they were often treated like a diagnosis instead of a human. I knew there had to be a better way — and I decided to build it.
At MVMT, we specialize in 1-on-1, personalized rehab and performance therapy — not the watered-down version of PT most people are used to. Every session is about the whole person, not just the painful part. We combine hands-on treatment, strength and movement training, education, and coaching to help people take ownership of their health — long after they leave our office. Whether you’re a CrossFit athlete, weekend warrior, or just trying to keep up with your kids without wincing every time you bend over — we’re here for you.
What problems do we solve?
The biggest one: people feeling stuck, broken, and like their only options are rest, injections, or giving up the activities they love. We say hell no to that. We help people get strong again, trust their bodies again, and realize they’re far more capable than they’ve been led to believe.
What sets us apart?
Simple — we over-serve our clients. Every. Single. Time. No mill. No assistants. No B.S. Just quality care that’s actually focused on outcomes, not insurance billing. We take the time to listen, educate, and build long-term solutions — not just short-term band-aids. Our community knows when they walk through our doors, they’re not just a patient — they’re a priority.
What am I most proud of?
Honestly? The ripple effect. When a mom deadlifts pain-free again, or a firefighter gets back to duty, or a CrossFit athlete hits a PR they thought was out of reach — that’s impact. But more than that, we’re helping people stop fearing their bodies and start owning their health. Everyone that walks through our doors is treated like family and we couldn’t be prouder of our MVMT fam.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about MVMT, it’s this:
We give a damn. About our people, our craft, our outcomes, and our mission to raise the standard for what care should look like. We’re not just here to fix pain — we’re here to help you build a life that’s strong, healthy, and fulfilling.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
My husband and I came from the traditional physical therapy and sports medicine outpatient clinics. We were both unhappy with our careers and felt that patient care was not put first. We found our selves burned out after only a couple years out of graduate school because we were seeing multiple patients in an hour and couldn’t develop a rapport or build a proper program for them.
We also came out of school with over $250,000 of debt combined between the two of us and knew that we needed to work hard in order to pay them off. Trevor was approached by someone on his job site and said, “Hey you do good work, can I pay you to come to my house and treat my family?” We both looked at each other and said, “why not?!” After looking at the legalities of accepting cash for rehab and filing for our LLC that week, he started MVMT with a portable table and an iPad. We initially thought this was a way for us to pay down our loans faster but also having a satisfying side gig that allowed us to treat how we wanted, little did we know how it would grow to what MVMT is today!

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There are SO many resources we used and continue to use to help grow our business mindset, push our personal growth and overall leadership skills. We started with “You’re a BadAss at Making Money” and “The Obstacle is the Way.” Both are great books for reading prior to starting a business so you can change get out of your own way and better serve your community.
