We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Elaine Bryan. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Elaine below.
Dr. Elaine, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think it takes to be successful?
There are many traits and habits that help one to be successful, however to be disciplined is important and treating others with respect and kindness. It is my opinion that one should enjoy whatever business you choose as it will not feel like work if you have fun while at work, since spending a long time will be necessary for success. It seems as if being successful is not usually a sprint but rather a marathon. As a result patience and hard work are good attributes in any business.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I enjoy serving others as I saw this trait in my parents. My mom was in the nursing field but discovered quickly while working as a medical technician at Mercy Hospital and attending Northwestern University in Chicago that I could not work with physically or mentally ill patients for my entire career. In addition I discovered that I enjoyed working as an investor in real estate and started that shortly after I graduated from college. Working with students was also very fulfilling so I decided to teach and also invest in real estate. Eventually I returned to college to complete a masters and specialist degrees in guidance counseling and later a doctorate degree in Educational leadership.
Today I enjoy a fulfilling career as the owner of Elaine Bryan Realty, the Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Atlanta and founder and chair of the Elaine Bryan Foundation. Some of the accomplishments that I am mostly proud of are: Financial Freedom, real estate investments, my marriage to Gregory Bryan and relationships I have established with friend, my relatives, my work with our youth and serving the community in general. One thing that sets me apart is self discipline that enables me to develop a vision and complete the steps required to succeed. I help my clients with patience, listening and management skills and willingness to share tips required to succeed.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
The way I do all my business changed in early 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic started and we had to practice social distancing while serving clients. Fortunately, I have been a Microsoft Education Partner and started learning all the operating systems over ten years ago, so I had to improve on those technical skills. My office also had a drop box system for the Jamaican Consulate and the foundation. I also usually use 70% computer in my real estate transactions, however almost all my current transactions are virtual including walk through before real estate closings. I developed many online programs during the pandemic that have served my clients effectively including some motivational Zoom, Facebook Live and YouTube Events that have been successful.. My annual Inspirational Luncheons changed to “Thriving With Technology” where I have established series of online youth sessions for students and adults. One very uplifting session is our annual “Jamaican Pioneers of Georgia Events” done virtually.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I worked as a guidance counselor and in real estate for many years. Excellence is my standard, also integrity, loyalty, respect and kindness. Treating people with kindness and respect is now a habit after many years. It helps if one truly likes people when working in a “People Business.” In addition, I think your word should mean something, so keeping your promises to customers is vital to building a good reputation as it takes many years to establish positive relationships. My trademark is “What you do with what you have determines what you become” I live by my registered trademark and also try to help others if I can.
