Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr Doniel Ervin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dr Doniel , appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
The best thing I’ve done to show my customers appreciation is to acknowledge them for being loyal as a customer. We celebrate the years of service that the customer allows Ervin Management Group to serve them. We present appreciation certificates to these clients, and the expression of compassion felt by them excites us to continue doing what we do best. One client stated that they had never experienced a company taking the time to thank them by presenting a certificate of appreciation to them. From this experience, we acknowledge our customers every year and reward each with a referral discount when they share with their friends and family.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Doniel Ervin, an Author, Minister, Missionary, Publisher, and Radio Host. I’m also an Entrepreneur in business management, church administration, and tax planning services. I’m a colorectal cancer thriver who caused me to pay it forward as an advocate and participant in March’s annual cancer awareness month and part of the SCOPE 5K run with MD Anderson. In addition, I provide humanitarian efforts to several countries in Africa and Asia: Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, Pakistan, and India. Finally, I’m an enthusiastic visionary and youth mentor as an innovator.
I started my business venture due to countless job searches because of the unexpected transition from Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In addition, I underwent chemo and radiation treatment for colon-rectal cancer (July 2005 – March 2007), which caused me to be unemployed. I’d spent countless hours seeking employment, but I was overqualified, seeking help for my young children and me through government assistance. Unfortunately, no services were available with no knowledge of familiar support inside a new city. Similar life issues and natural disasters were Hurricane Harvey in 2017, the Texas Freeze, and the Cov19 pandemic.
Nevertheless, the power of God within me encouraged me don’t lose hope but created what I know already-use my skill set to start a business. After many tears and challenges, ERVIN MANAGEMENT GROUP, LLC (formerly named Organize N Disguise). a Business Consulting & Tax Planning Services, where we help the sole proprietors, black women in business 55+, and faith-based organizations start, structure, and subconsciously transform the way of doing business through bookkeeping services and tax planning solutions.
We serve the underrepresented, marginalized demographic communities who desire to become an entrepreneur on a zero to low budget. In addition, due to past hardships from hurricanes to illness, I’ve survived the endurances within the homelessness and horrific domestic violence situations that occur with my children and me. Because so many women and families to this day are still facing these traumatic circumstances, I founded my non-profit organization, REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD MINISTRIES INTERNATIONAL (RBTBMI). We provide Redemptive Hope to those who may have encountered temporary setbacks in life, such as: (Colorectal Cancer and Domestic Violence; both are Prevention & Education Awareness programs). We meet quarterly (before covid19) as a support group and collaborate with other organizations to strive to encourage these families that a person doesn’t have to go through that alone.
I earned an Honorary Doctorate in Christian Leadership Ministry from Juliana King University in 2016, my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Human Resource Management from the University of Phoenix-Houston in 2011, and an Associate Degree in Accounting from Tulane University with annually continued educational certification and license renewals. I have four beautiful adult children with five grandchildren that have displayed my persistence, consistency, patience, grit, love, joy, and faith in God, for all things do work together for the GOOD!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
OMGosh! Yes, to stay functional, we had to pivot our services. To keep up with these changes, we had to transition from in-person to virtual appointments while remaining relevant and competitive in business skills required to win as an entrepreneur has changed so much in the past year. One of the most significant changes that have affected the business is the innovative creation to stay in business throughout the pandemic and continue to maintain (working capital). Unfortunately, that was not good for our senior clients because most were not that computer savvy to meet on zoom to complete their services, and we were at a severe loss in sales in 2020 and half of 2021.
Meanwhile, I was able to gain an advantage with many promotions offered throughout the pandemic and outsource a virtual assistant. What a great opportunity this was for my business, and the good news is that my virtual assistant could conduct text and phone calls and set up virtual meets to satisfy the customer’s inquiries.
Coming soon this fall, my second edition, “Bled out,” from the Chronicles of Faith series-INNOCENCE INVASION by Doniel Ervin on Amazon. Thank you very much for this beautiful invitation. God bless you, and His love endures forever!
