Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dr. Daphnie Swift. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Dr. Daphnie, thanks for joining us today. Let’s kick things off with a hypothetical question – if it were up to you, what would you change about the school or education system to better prepare students for a more fulfilling life and career?
I am an advocate for education, and I feel that it is very important. However, in my experience with the multiple degree programs that I have participated in, there is a great deal of information that I is given as “busy work”. While there is a great deal of beneficial information that is provided during the courses, there are also assignments that are given to simply keep the students busy. I think that if the programs could be streamlined to provide the necessary information for the degree or certification that the student is seeking, it could make a major difference. It would reduce the cost of education for the student and their family, and it would also reduce the time allocated to complete the degree requirements. Both of these could assist with the reduction of student loan debt. This in turn could assist with more students being inspired to seek higher education, because it is more affordable, and it takes less time to complete. On the high school level, I think it would be vital to teach students about the importance of credit, debt, and overall financial literacy. This could help students have a better understanding of the importance of those factors in their adulthood. All of these actions working collectively together could help more people have stronger credit scores and be wiser with financial decisions.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I knew from a young age that I wanted to be an entrepreneur and be a solution focused person. I enjoy helping people and seeing them succeed in life. Every profession that I have has a purpose and solves a problem in society or assist with leading to action orientated solutions. I help individuals with court issues or disputes solve issues through conflict resolution and mediating their case. As a business consultant and contract specialist, I assist small business owners with helping them start and scale their businesses, register as vendor with various government entities, and obtain business certification. The goal is to increase visibility of small minority businesses in the government sector. I chose to be a professor and teach students the various aspects of business, and the importance of being able to start your business the correct way. It is essential that your business has a sound foundation, before you start to grow and scale.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategies that I have used to grow my business are as follows: 1. Honesty
2. Integrity
3. Consistency
4. Dependability
5. Effective communication
I have high standards personally and professionally. I believe in the golden rule of treating others how I want to be treated. It is important to communicate with your clients consistently. This helps understand the needs of the clients and develop a working relationship. Being honest and dependable is vital to success. Over the years, I have ensured that all of my businesses and employees understand these top 5 key factors. When someone knows that they can trust you and that you are dependable and consistent, this is a recipe for repeat business. Individuals want a service provider that can meet their needs without a hassle.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My focus area is in the government sector. I like to pursue contract bids from various government entities. Government contracts are a more consistent source of income. It allows me to be able to project annual income, and it helps me to be able to pace myself for growth with the companies.
