We recently connected with Dr. Brittany Soul Sharp and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Brittany Soul, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
Legacy is very important to me. I’ve heard it said and agree whole-heartedly, that “Legacy is less about what you leave for others, but more about what you leave in others.” – speaker Unknown.
I’m hoping to leave my heirs both, physical and non-physical inheritance and memories. My hope is that when people look back over my life they remember my passion to love, inspire, encourage & uplift. Whether I’m known for singing the national anthem at the Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium and being called a hometown hero, or acting in a Feature film for the Las Vegas Black Film Festival, whether I’m known for the work I’ve done with the school district or sharing a heart-warming poem at the funeral of a community leader’s relative – I want those that do remember me to recall the way I loved. Remember the encouragement, kindness, love and genuine spirit I strive to bring to everything I do. Whether it showed up in my books, music, poetry, films, children, artwork, relationships or other passion ventures – I pray I am remembered for how I loved.

Dr. Brittany Soul, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
This is a great opportunity to, also, speak to the resilience my life (not just business/career) has required of me. Whew, they say ‘Curiosity killed the cat’, I always add, well Tenacity brought it back. I, personally, hear people tell me how much I’ve accomplished or how proud they are of my journey and diligence, and of course I’m grateful. However, my reality is one that has very high standards for myself and I’ve frankly have probably done and given 30% of what I desire to. I have such grandeur vision and can relate, like so many, that the vision needs provision (that seems less readily available).
This year began with me gaining experience, opportunity to contribute some wonderful ideas on a Corporate platform with full enterprise reach; I got to see my ideas translate from ideation, to develop and creation, and begin the process of distribution and the execution of facilitation. I simultaneously, was working with a University and other Major platforms and stages, like the inaugural TedxLasVegas experience; when I found myself being released from a role with some toxic leadership.
What makes my journey unique is not just how I pivot professionally, but the emotional intelligence, the empathy and the forgiveness needed when you are wronged along the way.
Within a short amount of time after being falsely accused and dismissed in the Corporate role, the leaders of that organization found themselves watching me walk out onto the stage with a feature presentation performance at an Annual Gala in which they paid their $35,000 donation to sit at the table (as other organizations and donors did) to watch me perform. My heart was not hard, I walked over to the table and hugged whoever would accept one, because the work that is done in my heart gets to reflect in what I do as a Creative.
I humbly understand that, 16 awards, an honorary doctoral degree in Humanities, being a two-time author (so far), means I’ve done some work. Being a dope artist, does not absorb us from being great human beings. I believe, operating in my purpose is much bigger than a stage & moving in the plan that calls my life into existence – is why I am seeing the green lights and head nods I am. I am passionate about what I do, because I am sure and operate in who I am, from a genuine space.
This pivot, from Corporate role to full time Small Business Owner and more, has been a blessed one. Yes it can be scary, but it’s not my first rodeo and quite frankly, viewing everything as an opportunity to grow and develop you and others, inside and out-is how to pull success from anywhere.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I laugh about this answer, frequently. You’ll understand why. So, Listen. I refer to him as my partner.
We met at an local artsy event we both found ourselves performing at, I sang, spit poetry, drop some bars – like I do. And he played guitar behind another singer, we merely exchange a couple eyes & swapped contact for music business sake.
Some time goes by, We ended up doing a few gigs together & I place him in the collective for my band (which at the time had a core and extensions for a musician base), I recognized that he’s always so sweet to me and has a beautiful spirit. For various reasons, we would connect, rehearse and play, barely getting to know much else about each other. Until…
As time has it, we begin learning a bit more about each other’s lives, we start pausing to ask more questions about one another, confiding a little as he was navigating a break up and I had already ended a short-lived relationship some months prior.
There is so much I can say about this person, but I will say one defining moment I can recall like yesterday. I was telling him, as a friend/musician subcontractor in the friendzone about how this guy asked and planned a date and then had to cancel. I was explaining how it seems like God won’t let people in my life that won’t ultimately bring value or create something special. But it feels like, “these guys just don’t follow through”, and my partner said, “I’d like to follow through”. (Whatever, awkward pause you think came with my blushing face – is likely what I felt).
Well, not only is my “partner” a Licensed and Board Certified Music Therapist who plays multiple instruments, sings, creates synergistically alongside me in our subcontracted or official collaborative businesses, but he’s also my love now.
Whew knew, my little rule of “I don’t date my own musicians”, would be broken by this unsuspecting love, we make a year summer 2025.
