We were lucky to catch up with Dr. Bianca ‘Mz Bee’ Lee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dr. Bianca, thanks for joining us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
I recall an incident from when I was just starting out as a master life and purpose coach. I was inexperienced but eager to make a difference in people’s lives. I set up a small home office in a bustling city, with just social media ads and a website announcing my services to the world, but the clients were few and far between. Needless to say, it was challenging to earn a decent enough living to cover the basic expenses, oscillating between passion for my work and the harsh realities of life.
One day, a tormented artist responded to an online ad, visited my website, and scheduled a virtual session with me. When we met, he shared that he was battling the loss of his artistic inspiration and felt disconnected from his purpose. Having an entertainment background myself, I 100% resonated with his thoughts and feelings and understood the severity of the need. Intensive therapy and deep conversations ensued, and after several months, he began to regain his lost spark, rediscover his purpose, and gradually, his art began to bloom again.
Despite his own struggles, he noticed mine as well. His intuition enabled him to recognize the subtle signs of my financial constraints: the constant loss of connectivity due to affordable yet unreliable internet service, the lack of proper heating in my office during winter as I often turned my camera off due to my wearing a coat or winter hat and my not wanting him to see it, and my tendency to skip meals and justify it with excuses such as. “I’m not really hungry” or “I’ll wait until dinner.” Instead of simply expressing gratitude for my help, he held a grand art exhibit and dedicated it to the person who helped him revive his spirit…Me!
Unexpectedly, the exhibition was a huge success. Not only did he sell enough of his artwork to secure his own financial stability, but he also insisted on sharing a substantial portion of the profits with me. He publicly acknowledged the role I played in his journey before a crowd filled with potential clients, which led to a significant boost in my practice.
This act of kindness was life-transforming. I felt a rush of gratitude, not just for the financial help, but for the public recognition, which significantly supported my business. I saw this act as an affirmation of my decision to follow my passion, reinforcing my belief in the power of empathy, resilience, and human potential. It serves as a poignant reminder of the profound interconnections of human lives and the ripple effects of kindness.

Dr. Bianca, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Dr. Bianca “Mz Bee” Lee and I am, above all, a servant of humanity, dedicated to the elevation and empowerment of every individual I encounter. My journey is truly an orchestration of divine purpose as I’ve spent my life embedded in various fields before harnessing my purpose and passion into the realm of coaching, therapy, and mentorship.
From an early age, I was immersed in music and the beauty industry. I was a recording artist, songwriter, producer, and bassist from age 5 up to my retirement in 2013, alongside being a Master Cosmetologist and a beauty salon owner. As life evolves, so did my path eventually leading me into the enriching domain of life coaching and cognitive behavioral therapy, tuning into the symphony of human emotions and experiences.
I wear many hats, all intentional and purposefully tailored to the well-being and success of individuals across the globe. I service as a licensed and certified Master Life & Purpose, Relationship/Intimacy, and Family Counseling. Additionally, I am a practitioner of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, each role shaping the comprehensive, dedicated, and instinctive approach I take with all my clients.
A core component of my work resides in my 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, Beyond The Scenes Community Efforts. We are driven by the mission to invest compassionately and humbly in our community. We provide outreach through support groups, coaching, art and creative programs, community events, and education. Additionally, I co-founded Behind The Scenes Awards and Recognition, an organization celebrating the behind-the-scenes heroes working for the betterment of our communities.
What sets me apart is my broad set of experiences and the spiritual connection I hold with my purpose and passion. I believe our life’s purpose has a divine etymology, and it only feels fulfilled when it’s realized and harnessed. I’m a conduit to help catalyze this process, so individuals can align their lives emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, intimately, financially, and physically and achieve the harmony they seek.
Yet, it is not just about the techniques and strategies, but also about the profound human connection and understanding. I bring my journey, my experiences, my insights to every interaction, making every session a journey of shared discovery, acceptance, and growth. To add to this, I am a published author. My book, “Makeup With Yourself!”, encapsulates my methods, leading readers towards a more balanced, purpose-filled life.
What am I most proud of? There are countless moments, but probably the most meaningful ones are the transformations I’ve seen in individuals who, through our work together, have tapped into their innate power, finding their purpose, igniting their passion, manifesting their goals, and ultimately, leading a fulfilled life.
I’m here to inspire, to guide, to nurture, to challenge when it’s needed, and to cheerlead every achievement. The people I work with aren’t just clients; they’re a testament to the power of personal growth and the pursuit of purpose. I welcome anyone who wants to embark upon this journey of self-discovery and self-actualization because I truly believe in the extraordinary potential residing within each of us. Let’s uncover your potential together and step into the power of your purpose!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the most formative lessons I had to unlearn, which oddly sits at the intersection of my past and present life, is the idea that ‘making it’ means achieving external measures of success. You see, growing up in Chicago and transitioning into a fast-paced entertainment industry, I was deeply ingrained with a vision of success that was largely based on external factors – recognition, popularity, financial gain. This was a particular notion I carried with me even as I further transitioned to being a cosmetologist, an educator, and eventually, a salon owner.
It was not until I hit a wall, emotionally and spiritually, around 2011 that I began to question this paradigm. I’ve always had an intrinsic sense of worth, a passion for nurturing others, and a belief in the power of self expression. And yet, I found myself hollow and unfulfilled, despite having a thriving career that many would consider the pinnacle of success. It was a disconcerting experience; I was on every conceivable metric, ‘successful’, and yet I felt a sense of emptiness.
That period, as challenging as it was, served as a spiritual and intellectual womb, birthing a new understanding of success for me. I began to unlearn the external measures of my worth and success and instead started to internalize a more sincere form of self-affirmation, one controlled by me and not the world outside. I realized that a satisfied life wasn’t about how many records I sold, how many clients I served, or even how many businesses I owned. It was about my mission, purpose, and the lives I could touch authentically… genuinely.
This ‘un-learning’ didn’t happen overnight. It took years of introspection, therapy, mentorship, and even re-education, resulting in my numerous certifications in life and purpose coaching, relationship therapy, entrepreneurship, spiritual mentorship, and cognitive behavioral therapy that now define my career.
Today, I center my definition of success on the purpose-driven life I lead, the relationships I forge, and the lives I impact positively. It’s no longer just about the glitz and glam or the outward achievements. Instead, it’s about those intangible, heartfelt connections I’ve made, the purpose I’ve discovered in myself, and the lives I’ve nudged into alignment with their own purpose that genuinely counts. This unlearning has sculpted my professional life, paving the way for mentees to do the very same.
Unlearning is a critical part of personal growth and development. Embrace that process. Just as an artist first learns the rules and then breaks them to carve their own niche, so too, should we unlearn and relearn in our life to truly unlock our potential and purpose.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
In my journey, I have learned that every change in the path enriches the journey, and it’s those very ebbs and flows that have brought me where I am today. Each phase of my life has beautifully led me to become who I am now. Each of these steps were not just professions, they were parts of a whole that make up ‘Mz Bee,’ an unstoppable force of encouragement, motivation, and mentorship.
If given the chance to go back, I believe I would repeat everything, not because it was perfect, but because it was necessary, and each chapter presented its own valuable lessons. I had the fortuity to nurture a spectrum of skills and harness a breadth of experiences that continuously serve me in my mission to uplift others. But, even more crucially, they have contributed to the rich tapestry of empathy, compassion, and understanding I have.
Often, we view life as a linear journey, a ladder we are climbing, but I prefer to see it more like a symphony in which each instrument plays its part and contributes to a much grander melody. My previous careers were not stops along the way; they were integral parts of a fundamental crescendo that has given rise to the melody that is my life today—the life that allows me to help others find and play their own music, their own purpose. In the grand symphony that is my life, every note was necessary to produce the harmony that is now so able to resonate with others.
My journey has always been about embracing opportunities for growth and impact, not limiting myself to the confines of traditional paths or professions. If I’m to be honest, it’s never been about choosing a profession. The journey chose me, and I am blessed by every bit of knowledge, wisdom, and experience it has and continues to bestow upon me. I’d choose it all over again, just as it presented itself to me, in every twist, turn, and triumph. It was all a part of my divine orchestration, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
