We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dr. Babak Azizzadeh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dr. Babak below.
Dr. Babak, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
As I was finishing my fellowship at Harvard, I looked at various options, including academic institutions and private practice situations, when trying to establish my practice. My two main options were to join a dermatologist or my colleague from residency, Dr. Larian.
The dermatology route was standard for facial plastic surgeons at the time due to the synergy between dermatology colleagues. However, at that time, I decided to join Dr. Larian because he is an incredible person, and we had amazing chemistry. We got quickly involved with Cedars-Sinai and with the local community. We were able to get our practice super busy very quickly. This was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have no regrets. I was able to develop an amazing practice focused on facial rejuvenation, rhinoplasty, and facial reanimation, and it was all done because I was working with an amazing person, Dr. Larian.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My practice is focused on facial plastic surgery, emphasizing deep plane facelifts, rhinoplasty, facial reanimation, and non-invasive aesthetic treatments. I believe what sets me apart from others is my dedication to my patients, artistic surgical approach, and deep understanding of facial anatomy and nerve structures. The goal is always to obtain beautiful, fantastic, aesthetically pleasing results with minimal risk. I am proud of my surgical outcomes, patient satisfaction rate, and ability to navigate complex situations like revision facelifts or facial reanimation. Patients get the best of both worlds, the beauty, the naturalness, and a significantly decreased risk for complications.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely, I love what I do. I am passionate about it. I’ve been able to innovate and publish new ways of doing things that have changed people’s lives. I love every aspect of what I do.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
It is important to understand what my patients are looking for. With my advanced knowledge in facial plastic surgery, I make decisions that will benefit my patients the best. So, sometimes, I will not do surgery if a person is not a good candidate or is doing it for the wrong reasons. These are just some things that I do that make me successful in my field.
