We recently connected with Dr. Ayala Winer and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Ayala, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
Once I completed my studies in mental health counseling, I decided to pursue a doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy. My goal was to become a faculty member, as well as establish a private practice in the future. In 2016, my daughter graduated with her masters in marriage and family therapy, and once she became a licensed clinician we worked on making that dream a reality. In 2019, as a mother and daughter duo, we opened the doors to Systemic Solutions Counseling Center, where we have an amazing team of therapists and counselors with different specialities to accommodate clients of different ages, cultures and languages, Since then, we’ve expanded the practice to include two clinical psychologists that specialize in providing comprehensive and diagnostic testing.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Systemic Solutions Counseling Center is comprised of a group of independent practitioners that are either licensed Marriage and Family Therapists, Licensed Mental Health Therapists, Licensed Social Workers, Clinical Psychologists or Registered Interns in the state of Florida. Our clinicians have diverse backgrounds in terms of training, experience and interests. We provide individual counseling, couples counseling, group therapy, adolescent therapy, and more of our services are available in multiple languages. We are unique in the way that we work in collaboration with a team of diverse clinicians who were trained within the different schools of thought.
Let’s move on to buying businesses – can you talk to us about your experience with business acquisitions?
When opening our business, it was important to us to consider the location and proximity to Nova Southeastern University, to provide a space for interns to practice their externship and to continue our relationship as alumni of the university. Our goal was to be able to provide a space where students can receive training and supervision and engage in the process of establishing a private practice.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
In this field, marketing is a critical aspect to change the stigma around mental health and attract clients to get the help they need. We also try to offer affordable services by accepting multiple insurances, allowing for a sliding scale fee when necessary, and meeting clients where they’re at. The best marketing tool has been our clients themselves who have benefited from our services and have referred others.
