We were lucky to catch up with Dr Ava Eagle Brown recently and have shared our conversation below.

Dr Ava Eagle, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?

Someone gave me a start to go to college and it changed everything on my path.

I’m Dr. Ava Eagle Brown, and my journey is a testament to resilience and empowerment. Originally from Jamaica, I overcame significant challenges, including homelessness, to become an internationally recognised motivational speaker, author, and life coach.

My foray into the world of motivation and coaching was sparked by my own life experiences. I transformed adversity into an opportunity to inspire others. I specialise in delivering powerful keynotes, writing impactful books, and offering life coaching services that empower individuals to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential.

Through my speaking engagements, I address diverse audiences, sharing insights on resilience, personal development, and achieving success against all odds. My books, including “The Mango Girl” and “Mastering the Art of Success,” delve into my personal journey and offer practical advice for personal and professional growth.

What sets me apart is my authenticity and relatability. I don’t just share success stories; I share the real and raw experiences that have shaped me. I connect with people on a human level, fostering a genuine understanding of their struggles and aspirations.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

“Absolutely! I wish I knew about mindset, the psychology of money, and these events and personal development concepts I’m trying to get my kids involved in now. I know that if they start early, it could change their trajectory.”

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?

In my professional journey, I faced a pivotal moment when the teaching job I held, which also had my visa attached to it, became threatened. The uncertainty prompted me to explore new possibilities and led to a significant career pivot.

Recognising the potential risks, I decided to proactively navigate the situation rather than waiting for the circumstances to unfold. This prompted me to explore alternative career paths and develop new skills that could open doors beyond my initial teaching role.

I engaged in thorough self-assessment, identifying transferable skills and areas of interest. This introspective process allowed me to discover a passion for personal development . I took initiative by enrolling in relevant courses, networking with professionals in the field, and gaining practical experience through internships or projects.

As I embraced the challenge of pivoting, I encountered obstacles and uncertainties, but the process allowed me to grow both personally and professionally. It ultimately led me to a fulfilling career in Business and pursued my MBA -demonstrating the transformative power of adaptability and resilience during times of change.

This experience reinforced the importance of being proactive, adaptable, and open to new opportunities, even in the face of unexpected challenges. The pivot not only safeguarded my career but also opened doors to a more rewarding and satisfying professional journey.
