We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dr. Alice Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Alice, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I think to be successful you must have long and short-term goals that you are committed to.and be flexible to monitor as needed.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am Alice Thompson, PhD. am the CEO of Thompson Educational Consulting, Incorporated. I was a teacher in a high school in Wisconsin and observed students in a classroom where students did not have any order or goals put in place by the teacher. I questioned one of my colleagues about the students who were misbehaving. I was told it was those “bad students” without expectations for them. My heart went out to those students because no one was trying to teach them. I decided then and there that I would make a difference for those “bad students.” I went back to school and obtained a Master’s degree in Behavior Disorders and have been providing professional development for administrators and teachers on how to work and manage with all students, even the ones with significant behavioral problems.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategies I used to grow my clientele were word-of-mouth-based on the quality of my work, attending and presenting at conferences, and applying for Response for Proposal (RFP)
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had to pivot during and after COVID. All of the services we provided were in person prior to COVID-19, but after we had to change most of the services to virtual. However, student evaluation still had to be done face to face and the evaluators went to schools armored down and tested the students.
