We recently connected with Dr. Acquilla Faye and have shared our conversation below.
Dr. Acquilla , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Do you remember as a child, the vastness of your imagination or a moment when you envisioned your life in the purest most perfect form? I invite you to close your eyes while allowing your imagination, heart, visioning abilities to travel to that pure perfect place of peace. Take a deep breath and hold it for at least 5 seconds, then exhale slowly.
How do you feel? Relish in the peace and what you see for yourself. Embrace this feeling while exploring your vision with your imagination, heart and soul.
Now open your eyes if you haven’t already. Know that what you just experienced in peace CAN be a daily experience, even within the moments of challenge or emotion.
The Mission of Tribe Transform is to help leaders of leaders and caregivers to have more work-life balance, self-acceptance, and vulnerability to reduce stress and increase peace in their daily lives.
It’s all about having the right tools in your Arsenal of a Peaceful Life™. You deserve to have peacefulness in your life so that you have the ability to transform situations for your benefit and those around you. We owe it to ourselves to recognize that we deserve the luxury of self-care because it’s an essential component for you longevity, vitality, psychological processes, and physiology. Your body, mind, heart, emotions, and soul need us to implement self-care practices on a daily basis just like our daily breathing and hygiene.
I developed the entities Tribe Transform in conjunctions with Our Efforts United (non-profit) and Acquilla Faye (the brand) because they represent the trinity of life that provides each individual who encounters us with a transformational life experience. Each entity works in conjunction to provide services from the corporate office to a community in need of resources. We believe that everyone deserves the 4 Es: Education, Empowerment, Entertainment and Elevation.
Throughout my life, I have had to overcome multiple challenges that led to me seeking peace which led to flagships in techniques, practices, tools, exercises that are simple, practical and fun while yielding instant transformational results.
Going through challenges that made me question my value and worth led to me evaluating how I looked at life along with my interactions with others. When seeking resources, it was often discovered that others were fixated with their programs and did not take time to recognize the uniqueness of my situation. Overtime, I met individual who recognized my worth which led to their dedication to helping me reach new levels.
As I single mother on today, and a young lady who overcame many abuses, challenges and confusions; it became imperative for me to share what I learned with others while recognizing that there is an affordable solution. At my lowest points, I always reached out to others for help and the doors were shut. Then as I developed, it came to my attention that we all want to advance and cannot sometimes find the resource. Tribe Transform is the solution because we blend the whole person into every session and activity. Truly, our mindset and internal feelings influence our external out terms.
When we learn to embrace ourselves, work on ourselves and move forward with ourselves then we are able to shift our realities and manifest our dreams. The goal of Tribe Transform is to provide steps 1-3 and beyond to manifest a life that leaves a legacy of overcoming through relaxation that leads to more peace and less stress.
To gain this this peace, we need resources and Tribe Transform is the company that helps you to get your voice and vision out to the world to make a larger impact. From spiritual to professional development, we help to increase work-life balance and decrease stress.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Let’s face it, shift happens, and Tribe Transform was developed as a tool for making those shifts easier. In life, I experienced many shifts and learned how to find value in the difficult and pleasant situations which led to helping others with their shifts.
When I started this company in 2018, I had just experienced two major losses three years prior and entered into a focused state of healing and self-authenticity. It was a moment for me to implement everything that I developed and make it better to help others by adding more depth to the offers. I had to embrace that my gifts were not just for myself and my inner circle but the world. This mindset evolved as a variety of diverse people ranging in age and gender would reach out to me for help with their problems and though I was experiencing my own shift, they received valuable assistance. They trusted me to help them find practical solutions and overcome personal challenges while managing their responsibilities. Many individuals shared that they enjoy how I add humor to each situation while knowing how to set boundaries for the serious moments. They stated that the world would benefit from my natural gifts, wisdom and experiences an educator, facilitator and counselor.
Tribe Transform, is about building a community of healthy people who are transforming their lives, perspectives and relationships for the good. My passion has always been helping others through the philosophy of integrity, practicality and connections based on my personal experiences and professional trainings. I have had the pleasure of working directly with over 520 individuals, partnering with 35 businesses, and sharing information through one-one-one sessions, group facilitations, retreats and online sessions. It has been a joy to provide people with free tools such as blogging, Grown Folks Talking Live podcast and Youtube videos in addition to at cost options because everyone deserves to have tools for living a more fulfilling and healthy life.
One unique aspect of my company is that every client gets to work directly with me as a Reiki Master, Transformational Coach and Intuitive to assess your needs and create a plan of action. The journey to healing starts with self and I learned that when you have someone with a sincere heart you are receiving more than a service. Love is a powerful healing force and my company is founded in love because we all need comfort as we shift our lives whether it’s a major change or minor adjustments.
Also, we use a wholistic approach to addressing the needs of others in order to assist with transformational breakthroughs resulting in vision, clarity of purpose, lifestyle changes and most importantly a healthier peaceful balanced life. We use the term “wholistic” instead of holistic because we address the mind, body, emotions, and life circumstances of our clients to address each are of their lives. This is why our motto is, “Tribe Transform Increasing Life’s Blessings” by providing the how to your what and way. We truly help you to connect the dots and remove blocks, so the blessings flow in your direction.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building an audience on social media seems easy when you see all the videos and podcasts across platforms. However, there is a strategy to making sure that you keep engagement. I had to learn to create a plan of action for keeping folks interested in my content and trust me that was a process. And it still is because engagement with my audience is like a relationship; if you are absent for too long or start switching topics too quickly then the interest can fade. In my experience, I have tried so many different methods to grow my audience including investing thousands of dollars. If you are looking to grow your audience, take my advice, you do not need a ton of money. What you need is discipline and consistency.
There are a few things that I did to build my online presence. Fortunately for me, I have a history in entertainment as an actress and model as well as training in public speaking and authorship which made being online comfortable for me. There is a joy that I gain from engaging with my audience via videos, pictures and writing. I would consistently take walks in the park as a part of my daily routine and video the walks so that others could enjoy the scenario. While showing the scenario, I would engage in a topic about wellness or overcoming a personal struggle while providing strategies that they could use. Vulnerability with my own life and sharing my world is what made me relatable. My son would be with me in some of the videos and if he was not in the video everyone know he as near because I established the consistency of showing how being a single parent is important because he and I are our family unit. I showed that it is okay to have a non-traditional family structure because let’s be real, most of us either come from or currently have non-traditional families.
In addition to the videos that I shared during walks, I also created a television show and podcast that reached over 60,000 households without major marketing. The messages in both shows focused on interviewing others who have overscome challenges while still pursuing their goals and creating positive relationships in their lives. It is important to me to show that difficulties happen in life and that there are ways to move forward. As well as providing techniques for meditation, body awareness and self-care on a regular basis. So guess what, I executive produce my shows, so I incorporate my values into every episode. When you are building your audience online, it is important to have the quality of your messaging based on your values so that you attract your tribe. There is someone for everyone and whatever your message is will attract the people who hold similar values or desire to learn more about you and what you are exposing them to through your sharing. Remember when you are sharing content that is just content; but when you are sharing you then the content gains value which attracts more people to you.
Be sure to share in an authentic manner so that your audience knows you. For me, I was also able to share with the portion of my tribe that enjoys reading over watching a video by being a columnist for Simply Elevate Magazine, The Carolinian and my own platforms. In this way, I would share more in-depth using words to create the images and feelings for my audience to experience me in the comfort of their own space.
Your audience can tell when you are authentic so be authentic. Be consistent with when you post and where you post. Do not try to post everywhere which means you have to post where you feel most comfortable because each social media platform is different. Think of it like you don’t shop at Target to buy a car and you don’t go to the dealership to get groceries. Be confident about where you’re posting because I learned a long time ago that everyone who is part of my tribe is not on each platform. I am still building my audience as my company continues to grow. The postings will continue to occur and I will also continue to share in interviews such as these on other platforms because partnerships and collaborations are another key to reaching people who are seeking transformation in the way that I provide.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Unlearning has been a huge part of my business. One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that being humble is not effective when it comes to marketing your skills and helping others to understand what you do. I was raised with the philosophy of let your works speak for themselves and to not brag about yourself. However, I learned that bragging is when you are trying to make yourself appear to be more that what you are or when one is trying to boost in a way that is not helpful to others. You see, people do not know what you can do and what you have accomplished if you do not tell them. Over the years due to social media and the vastness of the world, the community structure has changed in such a way that you have to make sure that you are sharing your accomplishments on a regular basis. When sharing your accomplishments, it is a testament of your work. When you sit quietly, hoping that others see your work, hear about accomplishments, share your information or know everything about you is false.
I met people who were coaches and mentors who would be uncomfortable with the stories I shared as to why I do the work that I do in the community and with my business. They did not like the fact that I was comfortable sharing about the traumas and abuses I experienced which led to me having more insights on how to heal. They could not understand the level of peace and compassion I showed despite the pain of the past. For me, this is part of the unlearning. I learned that it is important to not hide my story because my story is what has shaped me and my business. My story is also what makes the foundation of my business solid because my clients can tell that I have faced difficulties and mastered how to be authentic and forgiving in order to provide the proper guidance and resources to help them.
Unlearning that you entitled to share both the glorious times and the tragedies give you power to stay resilient. When you are comfortable with your life, then you are able to pivot when needed, you begin to discern who to be around, you are able to dive into your creativity and strengthen your ability to make an impact.
My business began expanding when I decided to no longer be humble in the sense of being silent regarding my skills, talents, gifts, and achievements. As I shared my experiences of travelling, receiving awards, being a columnist, author, and editor, as well as my artists abilities as an artist, poet, model, actress and content creator; people drew to me more. They could not understand how I was able to do so many things and have actual success with each. They were under the impression that people are only gifted in one way and if they have more than one gift that they are not a master of those gifts. However, there are many texts that describe when you have multiple talents and share them with the world that those talents will be multiplied.
Part of my unlearning was to realize that it is a blessing to have multiple talents to share with the world and that not all of us are limited to one talent. It does not matter if you have multiple talents or one talent, what matters is that you are sharing with the world by using your voice and resources. I learned that I am responsible for ensuring that others know what and who I am. It is not up to others to define me. Even with coaches, I learned that I had to maintain who I am and not allow myself to become what they want but who The Creator designed me to be in this world.
For everyone reading this, coaching and mentors are helpful with expanding especially when you are clear about what you need and what you desire. To receive the proper support, you have to unlearn that being quiet is equal to being humble. Being humble truly means that you are able to learn from others and to make adjustments in order to achieve your goals. Humility also means that you are willing to ask for help when you need it. You can be humble and confident. In fact, you must be humble and confident to build your business and live the life that you desire. To have peace in your life, you have to accept yourself and all of your experiences.
So for me, I unlearned old habits and mindsets that were taught through tradition by people I respect because we are in a different time period with different resources. We are living in a world where people need you to tell them about yourself, rather than wait for others to define you. The most impactful people are willing to speak up with confidence and compassion. My unlearning is an ongoing process because what worked yesterday is not necessarily going to work today. This means I must remain a constant learner even in my own reflections and growth.
