We were lucky to catch up with Doug Rogers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Doug, thanks for joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being Successful isn’t a magical formula. The key is the people. We are in the people business. Once you find a need and you fill a need it’s a matter of listening and doing what the people want. If you talk more and listen less you will find you are swimming up stream. It’s not an easy thing to do but if you let your customers talk they will tell you what they want.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We are Dinkers Pickleball Club, located in Denton Texas. We offer one of the largest exclusive pickleball clubs in the state. Our state of the art facility was carefully mapped out so you get an outdoor feal where it’s sunny and 74 everyday. The dark blue courts with green surface combined with the bright lighting makes it a perfect place for indoor pickleball.
Doug had the idea when he and Jessica would go play at public courts and discover they would wait sometimes for an hour to play one game. When he approached Blake about this adventure Blake was very skeptical at first. Then doing research he discovered Doug was right. There was an extreme need in the Dallas Ft Worth area for courts. Combine that with the times you were excited to play all day only to watch rain clouds roll in and they decided indoor was the way to go. After looking all over for locations they decided on Denton. They wanted the courts to take on the personality of the town it was built in and Denton was the perfect location. With that thought in mind they developed the slogan “your community, your courts” and they still believe that today. Dinkers is based on bringing the pickleball community closer together, to meet new people and expand friendships. It’s a very warm and inviting facility welcoming family and friends.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
When Dinkers first opened their doors there were a flood of people for the opening day. With a healthy social media presence before the opening everyone had heard and it was a great success. However resting on the opening day success wasn’t enough. Dinkers had to beat the streets to get the brand out their. The best source for new clients is for sure word of mouth You have to keep pushing to keep the brand on fire. Remember the “he told two friends, and they told two friends and so on, and so on” well that can’t be more accurate. Never stop pushing and telling the people that love the business to let others know.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is a great way to get that ball rolling. Jump in with both feet and share everything. Make sure you are getting friends and family to share as well. If someone follows you make sure you follow them back and you will see your popularity grow. Make sure you are covering all social media and link them. Remember don’t make it always an add for your company. Make some fun content as well that maybe has nothing to do with your business.
