We recently connected with Doug Johnson and have shared our conversation below.
Doug, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
So this is a two-parter, At two different times in my life, once when I was twelve and again when I was in my early twenties two different people who saw potential in me as a musician and a creative either bought or gifted me a guitar. The first was from a family friend who knew I didn’t have an acoustic guitar for myself and always had to borrow one or use someone else’s, so they gave me my first acoustic guitar. The second was from a dear friend who as been a supporter of my music since day one. I was in the market for a better, more reliable guitar and they knew I couldn’t really afford one, so they told me they wanted to buy me one and gave me a budget to work with and they even went with me to a local Guitar Center and was there for the shopping experience and everything. I still have both guitars with me today. :)
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, my name is Doug Johnson. I go by @DougJohnsonLive I’ve been writing music and touring independently since 2010.
I started playing music with my best friends when we were just 11 years old. We are grew up learning how to play together. We lead worship at our church and toured locally for ten years.
I moved away from where we lived in 2010 and began my solo career while I was in college in Southern Indiana.
When it comes to music, I offer just about every type of service. I do weddings, house shows, banquets, worship events, concerts, rallies, etc.
It’s hard to pin point an achievement that I’m most proud of but one thing I’ll forever hold near and dear to my hear is when I released my first solo album in 2016. There’s just something about “Firsts” ya know? Daring to be vulnerable and share your music is such a beautiful thing and it was something I’ve always wanted to do.
I love writing music and connecting with people. LET’S connect :)
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when you pour your soul into a song or a project and it resonates with others. Something so beautiful happens when you’re vulnerable with your work. Music is all about expression AND connection. <3
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Two things. BUY THEIR MERCH & SHARE THEIR STUFF.
There’s hardly any money in streaming for artists these days, so one of the best ways to directly support me (and other artists) is to buy our merch. Buy our records, shirts, stickers, etc etc as well as TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT ME :)
