Doug, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
Presence, listening attentively, and focused on being the solution for them! That’s the way I live my life. When you are “all in” with the person in front of you, whether that be in your personal or professional life, people take notice. They appreciate it, and in the professional world, they know from that moment on that you are here to serve! Service is an attitude, and a habit. It offers people the comfort to know that it isn’t about “ME”! It’s about being present 100% dialed in to create WIN WIN relationships and solutions in the moment…fulfilling wants & needs for clients. It’s called LOVE, to be quite honest. It works in our personal relationships too if we prioritize them! Love is the answer, as long as we are present enough to give our highest and best self in every moment :)

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I run several businesses. My life is all about helping people. I do that in a number of ways. I am an Author, motivator, coach & award winning Realtor! My life changed in my mid 30’s when I realized that Service is the ticket to fulfillment! Helping people really does bring massive satisfaction, a feeling of gratitude and appreciation for life and for being able to be of service in ways that really affect other peoples lives in a positive way! Some are coming soon, in the formatting stage, written but not published quite yet! The biggest thing to know about me is my commitment to serve my clients. I am relentless, and I don’t give up. I focus on being present, awake, and aware so that I can deliver my best self in a way that helps them WIN, while also encouraging them to bring their best self as well. Usually that makes for a pretty strong relationship and a lot of Win Win situations / deals! I have been awarded the Diamond level of achievement at the Circle of Excellence with the Central Carolina Realtors Association, and continue to serve my clients with all my heart and we win deals, even when it’s a tough market! That’s the difference, really. It’s not a job, it’s about being the solution for people and helping them get where they need / want to be…both personally, professionally, and physically! Moving is difficult, I help a lot of people transition into new homes and quite literally new lives! As a coach, that means BIG CHANGES sometimes :) It often feels like a new life whether moving into a new home or not! I help people break free, break out, and live a life without limits! FREEDOM is energizing, and by opening eyes to possibilities, people truly appreciate this gift!

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Having evolved from a life of sports, and a lot of coaches, my mindset was always to PUSH HARDER…often with blinders on! That’s fine and great when it comes to speed, physicality and getting stronger, fitter, in better shape with more focus, better skills and all the things associated with sports! When it comes to business though, tunnel vision and bull headedness can often get in our way. In fact, in my late 20’s I discovered some incredible ways that I was getting IN MY OWN WAY! It can often take a bit of a wake up call to really change our ways, but the net of this story is that I did have to change! Instead of shutting off my feelings, burying fears, and emotions, and plowing forward through thick and thin with little to no awareness and carelessness, I had to WAKE UP! I had to CARE MORE, and be CARE FULL! Instead of bumping into ceilings and walls, I learned how to open doors and literally REMOVE ceilings! The shackles came off and with limits removed, life became a lot more joyful! It was a bit of a learning curve once the light bulbs came on in that stage of life, but it changed everything for me! That’s why I have written the books and launched my coaching program, to help people understand this stuff! It’s super powerful!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I was really successful actually, and then I hit the wall. I went from a time in my life that everything was working, to NOTHING was working! It was quite dramatic, and FAST!! It was as if the rug came out from under me in a hot minute and I went from HERO to ZERO! It was terrible. I had made a lot of money, and then I got fired, so I took some time off to try “Day trading” as a business. I learned everything about everything and even programmed my own strategies and indicators. I thought that I really understood it, and I did, but I came desperately close to running out of money so I didn’t have enough money once I understood it to trade it effectively. The cool thing is that not only did I learn how to “program” in code, I also learned how to RE-program my BRAIN! By watching my mind for several years as I was programming, I cracked the code on self knowledge and using what I learned, I literally redesigned my life! That changed everything for me. NOW, I am helping others get through their walls and ceilings!
