We recently connected with Dossi and have shared our conversation below.
Dossi, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I want to leave a legacy of never giving up for my daughter Eden. Being a singer, you have many obstacles to get through because there are so many out here! I’m showing my daughter that I make music because I love it, not to please the masses. If I reach 1 person with my music, I have completed my mission. I make music from my heart and soul and I want people to feel that.

Dossi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have literally been singing since I was 2 years old. I come from a musical family. I began singing with my father’s quartet group at the age of 5. I started singing background professionally at the age of 16 with my Cousin Neo-Soul artist Conya Doss. From there I’ve sang behind many talented artist and icons such as Durand Bernarr and the O’jays. After 18 years of background singing I decided to come to the front! I’ve always written music since being a teenager but never really thought about being my own artist. I stepped out on faith and decided to go for it. I’m blessed to have my husband “E Minor” produce all of my music. I’m proud of the fact that I kept going even after catching COVID and almost dying! They diagnosed me with heart failure after having Covid, even not being able to breathe didn’t stop me, I was destined for music!!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I’ve never really been a popular girl in the singing world here in Cleveland, and have been told that I’m not good enough. To be honest that use to bother me and for the longest time I would be intimidated by others that were more popular than me. Once I decided to make music that I enjoy, it no longer mattered what other people thought. If people rock with me and my style of music cool, if not I’ve learned to be ok with it. My music won’t be for everyone, but just know it comes from my heart.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think not conforming to what’s popular has helped me stand out as an artist. I feel that I have my own sound. I also think being genuine and authentic helps as well. With me you get the good, bad, and the ugly. I have a saying that i always use “I authentically love music and I am unapologetically me!”
