We were lucky to catch up with Doriyeh Ghassemlouei recently and have shared our conversation below.
Doriyeh, appreciate you joining us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Frankly, I do not know where to begin sharing our “customer success story” since there are so may, recent and old. I start with sharing few of the newest one and get to few old ones, of course just a portion of them since it won’t fit in here. Raquel Sefton wrote: “Love the responsiveness, attention to detail, and work of this lab. I had them take a photo and print it in house on a large canvas. They were all over it. Super responsive. Terrific service and terrific results. Above and beyond.” Kam Davis wrote: “Excellent film processing and printing Lab. Their skilled service is the trifecta prompt, friendly, and quick. They have great prices and have been in the game a long time.”
Chinchilla Chinchilla wrote: ” I called Moonlight Color lab and had the pleasure speaking to Doriyeh. Doriyeh was kind and informative when explaining the printing process for canvas and pros and cons of different sizes and finish.
Max Ulla Wrote: ” My experience with Moonlight Color lab was absolutely exceptional. Their dedicated team handled my old family photos with great care, treating them as precious pieces of history. The quality of their work was outstanding. The developed and scanned images were brilliantly restored, bringing faded colors back to life and sharpening blurred detail, while preserving the original essence of the photographs.”
Now few old one.
Yitzhak Dalal, Dalal Photography wrote: “I have had the privilege of using Moonlight for the past 26 years. I have found them to be very professional, reliable, and genuine throughout the years.”
Curtis Dahl from Dahl photographers wrote: “Their level of professionalism, attention to detail and integrity are good for our profession. They are in my opinion, the best lab in the United States for consistent, superior quality.
Gayla Wolf, The Honey Bee Studio wrote: ” Their years of experience is not only invaluable, but also difficult to find.”
Janise Witt, Photography by Janise Witt wrote: “I cannot conceive of the idea of not having them as my team player in what I do. I have had the amazing privilege of working with Moonlight Color Lab since 1989.”

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a second generation in photography, even as a teenager in early 1970s, we continued our father’s profession as photographer, and later on in 1976 change it from photo studio into photo lab. As a youngest amongst my siblings my four brothers and I run Moonlight Color Lab since 1989 in the United States, and prior to that, we had largest and the most advanced photo lab in Iran.
We are amongst the few professional color lab that are still around and serving wedding, portrait and fashion photographers as well as amateur ones that photography is their hobby, especially the young ones that love shooting films and getting it scanned and digitized. Our service includes, but not limited to developing color and black & white films, scanning negatives and slides, make small and large format prints from 2.5″x3″ to 60″ by any length and canvas gallery wrap prints utilizing environmentally friendly “eco-solvent” technology. We also do gift items such as custom t-shirts and mugs.
All of these services can be ordered using our website at www.moonlightlab.com/products.
What problems you solve for your clients and/or what you think sets you apart from others”?
To answer this specific question, I must say: helping our clients during the transitional period from film to digital photography in the early days of digital technology throughout the country and are very proud of our record.
At Moonlight Color Lab, we made the transition fast and smooth with investing heavily on new equipment as well as creating our unique “color profiles”, to make digital prints without having digital look, especially during the early days of digital technology. This is truly what has set us apart from competition then, and still now.
What are you most proud of and what are the main things you want potential clients/followers/fans to know about you/your brand/your work/ etc.
To answer this particular question, I must say: it is very difficult to get some specific colors right and accurate in digital photos. Colors such as RED, ORANGE and PINK. It has been a big challenge for the entire industry, but we are the only lab that can pull out those specific colors in the subjects and get it right.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Of course, and I am sure there are millions other refugees/immigrants such as my entire family and I that fled the persecution from various tyrant regimes and came here to start a new life. Mine is not much different than theirs, but with one exception: I still fighting for the freedom of my motherland Iran, especially now with the #Woman_Life_Freedom movement. My message to all oppressed people is “not to give up hope and believe into your ability to make changes for good.”

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
During the old days, word of mouth, and these days social media, search engines as well as local publications and magazines.
