We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Doris Benedith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Doris below.
Doris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
The Inspiration for my business name and brand name came from a personal experience at home. One day, my partner was using batana oil that he had purchased online, faithfully applying it to his scalp to encourage hair growth in areas where he was experiencing balding. As we discussed the product, he turned to me and said “Doris, you’re from Honduras- why not start your own business selling authentic products from your homeland and invest in yourself?”
That simple suggestion instantly resonated with me. The idea of creating a business rooted in my heritage and offering natural, authentic products deeply appealed to my heart. While it was initially challenging to establish my brand due to the competitive market and misleading claims from other sellers, I was determined to stand out by emphasizing authenticity and quality.
It took months of connecting with trusted family members back in Honduras to source genuine batana oil, as well as navigating marketing and building my customer base from the ground up. I began by running small ads on social media, offering product samples, and educating people about the benefits of batana oil and its cultural significance.
The name BatanaGoddess was born from my desire to empower women to embrace their natural beauty while honoring the healing traditions of our ancestors. I wanted a name that celebrated both the sacred heritage of the product and the inner goddess within every woman who uses it.
For those unfamiliar with batana oil, it is a rich, golden oil traditionally made by the Miskito people of Honduras. Extracted from the American palm tree (Elaeis oleifera), it’s renowned for its powerful hair and skin healing properties, particularly for restoring damaged hair, promoting growth, and deeply nourishing the scalp and skin. In natural beauty and holistic communities, batana oil holds a sacred, almost mythical reputation — and I’m proud to share this gift with others through my brand.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Doris Benedith, and i was Born in Trujillo Colon, Honduras. I came to the United States at the age of 6 with both my parents, the oldest of Three siblings. I’m a proud mom of two beautiful, smart children, ages 10 and 12, and a Healthcare worker actively pursuing my lifelong dream of becoming a nurse.
I am also the creator and small business owner of BatanaGoddess.Com, a brand deeply rooted in my culture and heritage. Growing up in Honduras, Batana oil was a staple in our household- a natural remedy passed down through generations for restoring and growing healthy, beautiful hair. I founded Batangoddess.com to share this scared tradition with others and help women, men and children embrace their natural beauty while honoring ancestral wellness practices.
What sets my brand apart is the authenticity and heart behind it from hair pomade (grease) to oils, and shampoo. I’m proud to offer a product that not only delivers real, transformative results but also carries a meaningful story. Batana Oil is one of nature’s best kept secrets- a miracle hair growth oil that I’ve personally used since childhood.
Through my business, i aim to inspire women, especially those from Afro-Latina and Caribbean backgrounds, to reconnect with the natural remedies of our ancestors and embrace their goddess energy from within.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I first started BatanaGoddess.com, I had no formal marketing experience — just a deep passion for sharing the beauty and benefits of batana oil, a natural hair and scalp remedy from my home country, Honduras. Building my social media audience was a gradual and organic process that began with simply telling my story.
I shared personal experiences about growing up in Honduras, the traditional ways we used batana oil for hair growth and restoration, and how it remained an important part of my life even after moving to the United States. I made it a point to be authentic and transparent, educating my audience not just about the product, but about the cultural significance behind it.
In the beginning, I invested small amounts in targeted ads and reached out to friends, family, and micro-influencers to try samples and give honest feedback. Over time, word of mouth, customer testimonials, and behind-the-scenes videos helped me grow a loyal, engaged following.
My advice to anyone just starting out is this:
• Be consistent and show up authentically. People connect with stories, not just products.
• Educate your audience. Teach them about the value behind what you offer.
• Don’t be afraid to start small. Focus on building genuine relationships over chasing numbers.
• Use your voice and culture as your brand’s superpower. That’s what makes your business unique.
Social media is a powerful tool when you lead with heart, consistency, and purpose — and that’s exactly how I built my audience for BatanaGoddess.com.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
When I started my Batana oil business, I used personal savings I had set aside specifically for entrepreneurial ventures. I kept my initial investment lean by focusing on small-batch production, sourcing ingredients directly from Honduras to honor the traditional methods I grew up with. Additionally, I reinvested early profits back into the business to help it grow gradually and sustainably, without relying on outside funding. This approach allowed me to maintain full control over the brand and stay true to my purpose of sharing authentic, natural hair care products.
