Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dorian Webster. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dorian, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?

Dorian, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So, my name is Dorian Webster and I am the Creative Director/ Owner of Grand Avenue, a fashion brand that centers around high fashion and Streetwear. In this brand it is a physical team of 1, just myself, but a mental and social team of many made up of my family, my closest friends that are as close as my blood siblings that I call my “core group,” and my peers who have their own brands whom I’ve come to have resounding respect and love for. I would love to say that we are solving the day to day problem of what to wear and what looks good with what and steering people away from the conglomerates of “fast fashion”. What really sets myself, but really Grand Ave apart from others is that each piece is thought out for months and years depending on what it is, and each piece isn’t perfect but it’s hand made so there’s a particular amount of tender love placed into each stitch of every garment made with the Grand Ave name to it. Being in this industry where I have no experience, no collegiate background, and no headway guidance, it is particularly hard to gain a stable balance, but I am so proud that even with all of that I have found a pocket in which my thoughts on “what’s next” or “this would look fire” are met with overwhelming loving feedback from my audience. I want people to know who Grand Ave is and I want them to see themselves as Grand Ave.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For me the goal or mission that is driving my creative journey is to help as many people around, adjacent, parallel, and diagonal to me. One would think it would be to be as big or bigger than the moguls like Louis Vuitton, make as much money as possible, or having my name in the limelight as the best creative designer, but growing up I was always taught that material things and fame will never last, but the genuine mark you make in someone’s life because of your presence is priceless. This is the thought process I have in each piece, how can this truly make the piece owners life better.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the process of sketch to final product because you have this idea of a piece and you make a prototype and realize that something doesn’t look right or fit how you thought it. So you go back to the drawing board and tweak what was wrong, then you go through the process again and realize something else now doesn’t work. So, now you go through this process of tweaking and then the final product looks similar, but very different from the initial sketch and that is the true foundation of being a creative, constantly having the ability to pivot and shift to make the perfect piece or product.
