Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dora Toma. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dora, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
This business was born out of my own life, not a business plan. My journey into this work started in one of the hardest seasons I’ve walked through, I was trying to grow my family and experienced loss. I kept hearing “everything looks fine, just relax,” but nothing felt fine, and no one seemed curious about the why. I’ve always needed to understand the reasoning behind things, so I started digging into root-cause health: minerals, hormones, gut, the nervous system. And slowly things began to shift. When my daughter Margot arrived with her own early struggles (eczema, constipation, big emotions), that same approach changed everything for her too. That was the moment it clicked: this wasn’t a one-time thing for me, it was a whole framework for supporting a family.
I knew it would work because I wasn’t the only woman who’d been dismissed or sent home with “unexplained” and no follow-up. The information and testing existed, but it was scattered and overwhelming, and rarely translated into something a busy mom could actually live out. I could combine advanced functional testing with real partnership and education without the overload, and I could support the whole family. When a mom prioritizes her health, her child thrives, and when a child gets the right foundation, the entire household feels it. Very few people were looking through that lens of mom and child together, and that’s the piece that lit me up most.
What excited me wasn’t just building a business, it was the belief that’s become the heartbeat of everything I do: there’s always an explanation, it just has to be discovered. Helping women feel empowered enough to go find theirs is the work I get to do every day, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m Dora — a Functional Medicine Certified Health Coach and the founder of Fertility to Wellness. At my core, I’m a mom, a lifelong learner, and someone who’s deeply driven to understand the why behind how our bodies work. I came into this field the way a lot of people in functional medicine do: through my own story. After walking through fertility struggles and loss, and later supporting my daughter through her own early health challenges, I went looking for real answers — and found them in a root-cause, whole-body approach that standard care wasn’t offering me. What started as my personal search became my life’s work.
What I do now is help women uncover the root causes behind their hormone, fertility, gut, and energy challenges — while also supporting their children’s health. I work with clients virtually and in person near McKinney, Texas, using advanced functional testing like HTMA (hair mineral analysis), GI-MAP stool testing, and organic acid testing to actually see what’s happening beneath the surface, rather than guessing. From there, we build personalized, realistic protocols that fit into real life — because a wellness plan you can’t actually live out isn’t much of a plan at all.
The clients I serve are often women who’ve felt dismissed, told their symptoms are “just part of motherhood,” or sent home with “unexplained” and no follow-up. I solve that by getting curious where others stopped looking, and by translating complex lab results into clear, doable next steps. What sets me apart is two things: I’ve lived both sides of this — the struggle and the healing — so I’m not speaking theoretically. And I support the whole family. When a mom prioritizes her own health, her child thrives; when a child gets the right foundation, the entire household feels it. Very few people are looking through that lens of mom and child together.
What I’m most proud of is the trust my clients place in me, and the moments when a woman realizes she isn’t broken and never was — she just needed someone willing to dig deeper. If there’s one thing I want people to know about my brand, it’s this: there’s always an explanation, it just has to be discovered. Your journey is unique, you’re not alone in it, and any small change gets you closer to where you want to be.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The season after my loss tested me most. Everything in me wanted answers, and everything around me said there weren’t any to find: “everything looks fine, just give it time.” I could have accepted that; honestly, it would have been easier. But I couldn’t quiet the part of me that knew my body was trying to tell me something. So instead of shrinking into that silence, I poured myself into learning, late nights, courses, certifications, going deeper into root-cause health than I ever expected to. Grief and curiosity sat side by side, and I let the curiosity pull me forward.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn is that I could keep pouring from an empty cup. For years I wore “being the strong one” like a badge. Always the supporter, always saying yes, always making sure everyone else was taken care of before I even checked in with myself. As a mom, a coach, and frankly as a type-A woman, I told myself that was just what it meant to show up well. What I didn’t want to admit was that you can’t out-supplement or out-nutrition a nervous system that’s stuck in survival mode. I’d reach for the right foods, the right protocols, and they helped, but no amount of magnesium can make up for never letting your body rest. The depletion wasn’t a nutrient gap. It was a way of living.
The backstory is that I had to live it to learn it. There was a stretch where I was doing everything “right” on paper and still felt drained, and it forced me to get honest: my own cup mattered, and tending to it wasn’t selfish or optional. That shift changed how I work with clients, too. I don’t just hand someone a supplement list and send them off, we look at the whole picture, including the rest, the boundaries, the nervous system support. Because real, lasting change starts with getting the body out of survival mode, and that’s something no capsule can do on its own.
