We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Donte Mearon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Donte below.
Hi Donte, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of my meaningful projects was a recent one. The community cloth was a project I created to make silkscreen and other printmaking techniques accessible to the masses. I had a Kids Zone booth set up at the Edina Art Fair. I was able to show 400 kids over 3 days how to print and they took home a piece of the cut cloth. I got a grant from the Edina Art Center for art supplies. I was able to make a collage of the prints and present it to the art board to hang in a city building for the community to enjoy

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Im proud I learned a craft that is a trade and therapeutic skill that heals.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
2 years ago I quit alcohol. I recovered valuable time and dedicated my habit to my craft. Dedicating time to learn, teach and share more

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Printmaking is the perfect approachable discipline for non creatives because feelings and emotions like joy and disappointment are discovered through my way of teaching
