We recently connected with Donte Dodson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Donte, thanks for joining us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

As an artist/creative, taking risks & putting yourself out there is a major key to our success. Fighting the internal battle of what people will think or taking your hard earned money & investing into something that you won’t get an immediate return from in hopes of creating a moment or opportunity. I believe taking calculated risks is very important not only in the entertainment business but in Life in general.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

What’s up everybody I’m DonDrizzy an artist & creative from the Kansas City, Missouri area. I been making & writing music since I was 14 years old & in 2018 I Signed With Subliminal Music Group, a Kansas City based record label to develop myself as an artist & to learn the business of music. We are currently working on signing a new deal with New Record Label “All Rockstars Go To Heaven” this summer. Some of our accomplishments are having multiple songs play on the radio & one of my biggest songs “sober” was played on the radio in California multiple times as it kept being requested by the audience. I’ve did an interview with iheart radio. Mine & artist Helsings song “Empty” went on to chart on ITunes which was a first for me. We’ve done a handful of our own shows locally with no outside help. We just continue to build & find opportunities to showcase our art at the highest level we can.
As an Independent artist /creative working with an Independent company our goal is to continue building our audience by creating music that resonates well with the people who support us. We want to build a community of people who have the same tastes & ideas for music as we do. A place where we the artists & the people can connect directly & personally. We don’t need a million followers, give us a 1,000 true supporters across the country who love what we do & feel a connection to it & we could takeover the whole industry! I want to give people an authentic personality & authentic music to go with it. The Industry is filled with gimmicks & behind the scenes stuff. This is as real as it gets!

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

I think I have a few goals that’s driving my creative journey. Some are music related some more centered around my actual life. I want to inspire people to pursue their passions & big ideas. I know the feeling of being discouraged from pursuing a big dream & being told “that’ll never happen” so it’s important to beat the odds & then help other people do the same. I wanna give people the same feeling I get when I listen to my favorite artist. I want people to play my music & dance because it makes them feel that good. Or to make them think & spark positive forward moving conversations.
I also have financial goals as well. I want to help take care of my family. I want to be able to provide for a family of my own one day. To invest properly & be able to pass down assets to my kids. Do my best to start the foundation of generational wealth. All of these things are goals that drive my creative journey pretty heavily.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me it’s being able to express myself & having the ability to create things people can genuinely enjoy. To make a song that can make someone feel good or make them want to sing along is one of the best feelings I’ve felt. Also to inspire other people to pursue music or to pursure their own dream. That’s what I want my music to represent. To represent Inspiration & motivation to find what you love & do it at a high level. To be an example that others can do it too. Those are the most rewarding aspects to me.
