We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Donovan Camarotti. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Donovan below.
Alright, Donovan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
In my business, I like to implement new ideas and strategies right away. I see many companies that have great ideas, but take very long to implement them or sometimes never implement them at all. I attribute much of our success to being able to implement new strategies in our business very quickly.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Donovan Camarotti of Camarotti Homes and I am a 21-year-old entrepreneur who has built a house flipping company that is able to do 80 to 100 fix and flips per year. I got into the business right after high school. During my senior year in high school I started learning as much as possible about how to flip houses. Then once I graduated I started walking properties and making offers. My first week in college was when I got my first offer accepted. I bought this property as a rental, but realized it made more sense for me to flip it so I can get my money back and do it all again. I got addicted to this and decided I could build a large business around this. Many people seem to think house slippers by house is really low and put cheap finishes in them to sell them extremely high. This is absolutely not true though. At my company, we offer distressed homeowners a quick solution to get rid of a property they do not want and get cash in their pocket. Once we take possession, we renovate their house with quality finishes and sell it at an affordable price to a new buyer who wants to live in the property. We take unlivable properties and make them into great homes for families. One thing that set us apart is that we always stand behind what we say. Many I
investors lead sellers on and then not perform on their agreement. We strive to never do that and we always do what we say. We are going to do. Another thing that we pride ourselves on is that we do quality renovations. We do not put in the cheapest possible material to try to make a quick profit. Our motto is providing quality homes to the treasure coast, and that is what we live by

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The third house I ever purchased I lost money on. I got in over my head on a huge renovation. This property was four bedrooms, four bathrooms and 3000 ft.². It was in horrible shape and the back corner of the house was actually sinking. This was a much bigger renovation than I should have taken on at the time. At the end of the day I ended up losing about $50,000 on this property however I was able to flip other houses throughout the time I owned this one which kept me afloat. If I could go back, I wouldn’t change anything because this house taught me how to hire the right people and how to properly estimate repair costs. I ended up renovating this house three times because the first two crews I hired did not do a good job. I’m very thankful to have made it past this and still be investing in real estate today.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Anyone who has invested in Real Estate understands that it is extremely intensive. This is something that stops many people from ever starting. I was able to Get Hard Money loans on my first few properties and fund the down payment myself. Once we decided to scale up, we had to explore other options because like anyone, personal funds were limited. We decided to bring on a private Investor to fund the down payment on a new project. This worked out extremely well for everyone. The investor was able to make interest on their money and we were able to flip the house and make a profit. We now implement this strategy on nearly every deal. Since we are the ones to market for the property, negotiate the property, renovate, the property, list the property for sale, and sell the property we figured it is a great opportunity to give someone else the chance to make money by funding the deal
