We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donnetta Wells a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Donnetta thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Over the course of your career, have you seen or experienced your industry completely flip-flop or change course on something?

I like to talk about a battle I am fighting right now that is forcing a pivot. The Phenomenal Hues mantra is prepare pivot prosper, however in this country currently efforts to halt the prosperity of people of color is in full effect. My current pivot is an effort to help to change mindset around building wealth not saving money. Saving money traditionally is only good for the institutions you let hold your money. Building wealth comes from risk in innovation, investments and insurance. This is one of the most important things to be discussing and preparing for creating a new economic value for the BIOPIC community to be self funded self-sufficient and self-directed

I would like to support BIOPIC businesses and their staff(s) by providing professional, proficient and proactive virtual assistants at a rate that is significantly less than hiring direct staff. My virtual assistants are located in Ghana and the Philippines so as they support the small business, the small business is supporting an international community. Cooperative economics with allow the 98% to receive Fortune 100 experience and exposure while jointly strengthening everyone with a “boat in the river”. There is an old proverb when the tide rises all the ships sail. I want to create the tide in the form of an independent economy supported by IP, tangible assets, and self insured project and process that are revenue generating to build cash reserves.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

Referrals are key this is my first time in 25 years I have used public advertising to secure clients. I am not afraid to do the impossible. Do what THEY say you can’t. Help those “THEY” CANT HELP.

It is important to treat everyone with same respect while respecting your roll and your time.

I have built up a referral base because I am quick to ask what problem can I solve for you?

My response to the answer to that question is always clear. I will let you know how I can be of service and roll I would like to play to help you navigate those obstacles.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn that I had to ask for the seat at the table. I had to learn to build my own table set it and deal with any obstacles that come to clear my table.

In business it is easier to ask for forgiveness than permission. This is true because if you are a visionary how can you ask permission from anyone if you are doing something “THEY” believe you can’t do or it simply could not be done.

You have to know unlearn fitting in…we all as citizens of this Universe have tools and talents that are uniquely ours and given to us distinctly and purposefully for us to feed ourselves and make the work a better place just by being the YOU that tools were given to you to master.
