We recently connected with Donna Wojcik and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Donna thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I am an Intuitive Reiki Master Teacher and have had my own private healing practice for the past 3 years. My offerings include energy healing, card reading, spiritual guidance and coaching, sound baths as well as teaching courses, training, and offering mentorship. Through my healing practice, I am holding space for those seeking an alternative form of healing, guidance, and more. At times it feels like therapy and other times clients receive the clarity they need. All sessions ends with the client feeling at peace, relaxed, and/or with an understanding of what the next step is to continue on his/her healing journey. My purpose is to create a healing space for others who are seeking an alternative yet natural form of healing.
Going from a private practice to a large healing space came to me within a year of starting my healing practice. As a former classroom teacher, community has always been important, as well as fostering and encouraging others. I began to envision a large community of healing practitioners and a healing space for the community.
6 months ago, I expanded my healing practice, known as Kindred Healing Space, to bring in a community of healers, wellness practitioners, studio teachers, and wellness coaches. There are many wellness spas and healing arts centers that primarily focus on massage therapy and/or naturopathic services. There are few “healing centers” that focus on energy work, spiritual work, and other alternative healing modalities but many people seeking this type of work. Kindred Healing Space provides one location for clientele to experience various offerings that many other locations may not offer in one place. I also find the importance of bringing awareness and to normalize this form of health and healing.
At Kindred Healing Space we offer energy healing, a healing skincare experience, wellness coaching, yoga, sound baths, breathwork and meditation, healing circles, private wellness gatherings, events, retreats, and more.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I own Kindred Healing Space as well as my own private healing practice where I provide Reiki healing, card readings, and spiritual guidance. I hold space for those who aren’t sure what type of healing they are seeking and help provide clarity and guidance as needed.
About 5 years ago, I was suffering from chronic pain that my doctors and specialists couldn’t explain as well as having scary and unexplainable experiences spiritually. I sought out an Energy Healer to assist me and I started to feel better mentally, physically, and emotionally. I felt that I was given a direction with my physical, spiritual, and mental health and wellness.
Shortly after, I became drawn to Reiki and went through the trainings to become certified. When I first became certified as a Reiki healer, I provided free healing sessions to friends and family. Through that process, I knew I wanted to help others in this way and that was the beginning of my healing practice.
I was a 3rd-grade teacher when I started my business and continued to teach for a year. This made my availability very limited. I was only able to provide services in the evening and on weekends. Although I was tired after a day of teaching, I knew that my healing work was important, and it energized me. I eventually made the difficult decision to resign from teaching to focus full-time on my practice. I knew I was taking a risk, giving up a steady income that helped support my family of 4 into this unknown world of owning and running my own business. My husband and I decided that we would make it work.
Since resigning, my business has grown and I’ve been able to expand it into the larger healing space with amazing healing practitioners and teachers. I believe that I went from one meaningful and rewarding calling to another and that alone brings me peace.
Any advice for managing a team?
I don’t necessarily manage a team but have private practitioners who rent space as well as studio teachers and workshop/event facilitators. It was very important to me, though, to make sure when anyone joined the Kindred Healing Space “team” that they understood that community was important in this space and for us to support each other.
I periodically schedule gatherings where we can come together and get to know each other. I support everyone’s business in the space and make sure they know I am here when they need me. Many of the practitioners and teachers refer other practitioners’ services. I feel part of my purpose is to really empower and encourage others who are working independently or running their own small business.
I communicate clearly with everyone when I have to and make sure I maintain a positive and encouraging attitude. I am everyone’s cheerleader!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I started planning the expansion of my business right before I resigned from teaching. I began looking at commercial spaces for almost 2 years before I finally found the perfect spot. Scouting spaces and meeting with landlords and owners was sometimes very discouraging. I am a female minority and felt, at times, I wasn’t being taken seriously. We’d put an offer in to lease or purchase space and those would not be accepted. There were many tears and I would break down to my husband thinking maybe I was in over my head and that this expansion was not meant to be. There was a point that I was just about to give up and I made a decision to just ask a community through Facebook if they had any leads. And that is what brought the home of Kindred Healing Space. I looked at the space in March 2023 and signed the lease 4 months later. I practiced lots of patience and continued to follow up with the owner. We opened 4 months after signing the lease and are celebrating 6 months of being open.
