We recently connected with Donna Werking and have shared our conversation below.

Donna, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
Northern AZ Social will often receive perks (tickets, gift cards, discounts, etc.) from our client base and then we recycle these perks within our client base. We leverage these assets so all of our clients feel special, but most importantly, they are connected and in turn, supporting each other.

A great example, we have worked with the World’s Oldest Rodeo as a part of their marketing team for more than five years. Not only will my agency encourage some of clients to become sponsors of rodeo, but in turn, our clients will receive some advantages because of their connection to my agency. It could be receiving a special tour or receive special seating with limited back of house access. This is a huge part of our customer retention management. Eighty percent of our client base has been working with us for more than six years. We treat them all like family and no one client is more important than another. We greatly value these relationships.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I moved to Prescott, Arizona as a teenager in 1995. I received my education at Delaware State University, Yavapai College and Northern Arizona University. My professional career began as the Director of Corporate Sales & Partnerships for a professional sports team. The experience paved the way for my career in marketing. I free-lanced for approximately 5 years and quickly identified a growing demand for digital and social media marketing. By 2015, Northern AZ Social, LLC was born, and has evolved into a premier, full-service agency that specializes in traditional, digital, and social media marketing. Our talented team is recognized for their customized programs for a multitude of clients across northern Arizona.

In late 2021, Northern AZ Social, LLC was named 10 Best Social Media Agencies in Arizona by Kicksta and Influence Grid. In January of 2022, Northern AZ Social was recognized as the TOP 3 Facebook agencies in Arizona by SocialAppsHQ. Recently the Quad Cities Business News named Northern AZ Social, LLC as the 2021 Best Marketing & Social Media Agency in Yavapai County. An award we have humbly received for the the last six years now.

I believe my success is based on hard work, treating my clients well and supporting people in my community. Over the last 26 years in Prescott, I’ve donated my time on committees, boards, volunteering and fundraising.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2009, I left a corporate sales position and learned that it was marketing I wanted to do in my next career move. I worked as a marketing representative within my city’s tourism department. I observed small businesses in other towns grow their audience because they were connecting and networking on Facebook and Twitter. I immediately thought that’s our niche! No one else is doing this in Prescott, AZ. In 2015, I launched the first-ever social media based agency in the Prescott, Arizona. Prescott is a small, growing town and social media hadn’t reached our area like it had in the big cities. The first pivot was identifying how I would find success by creating my own agency and educating businesses about what social media could do for them.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for our agency has been educating new clients on a full scope marketing program. Social media offers great platforms for reach and engagement but it’s the full scope marketing program that will bring them the success they desire. All businesses need to incorporate all medias with print, digital, website and social media. We help them identify the right media components for what they desire to achieve.
