We recently connected with Donna Morris and have shared our conversation below.
Donna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a full-time business owner has transparently been an emotional rollercoaster for me over the past few years. In this journey, I have experienced the highs and lows. Even though the journey of mompreneurship has been challenging, becoming an entrepreneur has allowed me to create the life I want for my family and live out my passion. Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, but once I became a mom, I knew it was time to fully live out my dream of owning a business as a mompreneur. During this journey, I thought about what my life would be like if I never decided to leave corporate. I have e also considered whether I made the right decision to be a business owner due to the responsibilities of being a business owner and the sacrifice I was driving to achieve financial stability. Last year was a challenging year as an entrepreneur. I was going through a lot in my personal life and health that interfered with me fully showing up for my business. Due to the obstacles, my business partner and I did not achieve the financial goals we set for our business, which was very discouraging. Reflecting on the year today, I’ve realized that in that season of entrepreneurship, we gained something much greater than a 6 figure financial status. We had the opportunity to grow as women business owners, grow our network, and show up more for our growing families, which was priceless. Being an entrepreneur has allowed me to grow and learn more about myself.
Donna , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am the Co-founder of TGND Consulting, a full-service PR agency with the goal of helping new voices in the lifestyle industry stand out from the competition. I like to describe myself as a “mommi hustler” who finds joy in being a “creative” and building relationships. I am passionate about helping women bring out their inner beauty through fashion style and creating a cohesive brand image for women who are the face of their brands/businesses. My motto is “Your brand is your image, so you have to make sure you show up in the world how you want to be perceived.”
I am a certified Image Consultant who has always had an eye for fashion and fell in love with the world of media and communications at a young age while attending a media program for youth. I later studied communications at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning my bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies. During my undergraduate journey, I worked for one of the top luxury retail stores, where I learned the importance of having a great brand image and fell in love with merchandising. Since then, I have worked in sales and marketing, with a track record of driving company results. As well as working with private clients on wardrobe styling and brand image consulting.
Entrepreneurship has always been a dream of mine, and after several years of climbing the corporate ladder, I joined my sister at TGND Consulting as a full-time mompreneur.
At TGND Consulting, we help women juggling motherhood and the challenges of running a business, be seen in spaces, and stand out from the competition through strategic brand development, media relations, image consulting, and kick-ass public relations and marketing tactics. Simply put – we turn emerging brands into influencers through innovative ideas.
Our approach is – get clear, get organized, get started. Our clients have passion and hustle but may feel overwhelmed and unbalanced. They need direction in defining their goals, creating their look, and developing PR strategies that get results. We are a highly skilled team of mompreneurs specializing in media pitching, influencer marketing, brand development, and increasing brand awareness and exposure. We are able to help our clients succeed because we know first-hand the challenges of wearing multiple hats at home and at work. We work with our clients to help them discover their identity and find confidence and peace in their day to day.
We view ourselves as an extension of our clients’ brand and members of the team, and we take pride in being involved not only in the PR aspect of our clients’ business but understanding how the brand image and digital presence drive marketing goals and company growth, and strengthen sales. For our clients who are ready to grow, we have the resources, contacts, and experience of a more prominent agency with the personalized service of a boutique firm.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
My co-founder and I are identical twin sisters. We decided to bring our talents together to offer women who are in need of PR and media relation services, the brand strategy, and image services needed to create a cohesive brand and show up the way that want to be seen.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
What has helped me build my reputation is showing up as my authentic self and genuinely being passionate about what I do. Our clients can trust that we have their best interest at heart and can see the transparency in our work. We help women and moms create cohesive brands, showing them how it’s done through marketing our own business has been instrumental to our reputation.
