Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Donna Morris . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Donna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Since I was a little girl, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur. Becoming a mompreneur five years ago has pushed me to want to cultivate a community of moms who have dreams beyond their at-home roles to be seen, voices to be heard, and define their identity beyond motherhood. My vision is to help mompreneurs create magical brands by creating an authentic brand image strategy that women can connect with.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a certified Image Consultant; I’ve always had an eye for fashion and fell in love with the world of media and communications at a young age while attending a media program for youth. I later studied communications at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, earning my bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies. During my undergraduate journey, I worked for one of the top luxury retail stores; I learned the importance of having a great brand image and fell in love with merchandising. Since then, I have worked in sales and marketing, with a track record of driving company results. As well as working with private clients on wardrobe styling and brand image consulting.
Entrepreneurship has always been a dream of mine, and after several years of climbing the corporate ladder, I joined my sister at TGND Consulting as a full-time mompreneur. TGND Consulting is a full-service PR agency in Atlanta, GA, and Charlotte, NC. We aim to help women juggling motherhood and the challenges of running a business be seen in spaces and stand out from the competition through strategic brand development, media relations, image consulting, kick-ass public relations, and marketing tactics. Simply put – we turn emerging brands into influencers through innovative ideas.
Our approach is – to get clear, organized, and started. Our clients have passion and hustle but may feel overwhelmed and unbalanced. They need direction in defining their goals, creating their look, and developing PR strategies that get results. We are a highly skilled team of mompreneurs specializing in media pitching, influencer marketing, brand development, and increasing brand awareness and exposure. We help our clients succeed because we know first-hand the challenges of wearing multiple hats at home and work. We work with our clients to help them discover their identity and find confidence and peace in their daily lives.
We view ourselves as an extension of our clients’ brand and team members, and we take pride in being involved not only in the PR aspect of our clients’ business but understanding how the brand image and digital presence drive marketing goals and company growth and strengthen sales. For our clients who are ready to grow, we have the resources, contacts, and experience of a more prominent agency with the personalized service of a boutique firm.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Being an entrepreneur comes along with many hurdles and opportunities for improvement. Once I added becoming a mother into the mix, there were more challenges that I had to face daily as a mompreneur. From juggling my schedule, creating time to spend with my little one, running a household while my husband is out on the road working, and prioritizing myself in the process. As mompreneurs, we wear so many hats day to day. Transparently, the journey can get tricky, but resilience has taught me to give myself more grace. I must remind myself daily that this journey is a marathon, not a race. Shifting my mindset and perspective has allowed me to be a bit more gentle with myself as I maneuver through the obstacles of being a mompreneur, doing everything needed to reach my goals, and having the success and life I have always dreamed of.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
A pivotal moment in my life that plays a huge part in being a full-time mompreneur is when I decided to leave corporate America to focus on being a full-time entrepreneur. It was a major decision I had to make for myself and my family to go from stability to jumping head-first into the unknown world of entrepreneurship. Before leaving corporate America, I had spent the last couple of years working my way up the corporate ladder, which I worked very hard to do. Although I worked hard for the accolades and promotions, I still felt unsatisfied with my career because I lacked being able to spend the time I wanted to with my son and the ability for me to show up within my business. After months and months of putting the decision to leave my position as a sales trainer, I finally decided to put in my resignation and take a leap of faith to join my business partner in our business, TGND Consulting. Talk about taking a leap of faith!
