We were lucky to catch up with Donna Kemp recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donna, appreciate you joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
My first job was working at a Drug and Alcohol Office, after completing an internship with a substance abuse facility. I did not want anything related to Substance Abuse after that internship, but everything that came my way was exactly that. I finally decided to take one of the offers and it was one of the most fulfilling experiences, where I not only grew professionally but personally as well!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have worked in my field for over ten years, with children, adults, couples, and families. I work heavily with confidence building, anxiety and learning healthy coping skills, ways to deal with depression, communication training, and ways to discover self.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I used to want to be a surgeon when I was younger, until I went to a summer program at Emory in college. I learned about the mind and how that can also heal the body. I have loved every moment of working in the counseling and therapy field, since then. And would never look back.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I worked with Shana a few years ago, side by side as her peer. I saw how she worked with those she served and the impact she made on those around her. I one day went to her on a personal matter, and we became close friends as time went on. We continued to grow professionally, as individuals, and then one day she asked me to come and join in on the vision she had and what she was creating.
