Have you ever had to pivot?
I want to share a story about a significant pivot in my life and career that underscores the power of adaptability and resilience. It’s a tale of transformation that began with a simple YouTube video and evolved into a journey of continuous growth and learning.
The Beginning: A New Path
In 2019, while browsing YouTube, I stumbled upon a video about becoming a loan signing agent. Intrigued by the potential to add another stream of income, I delved into research, exploring what it would take to become a notary and loan signing agent. By the end of the year, I had earned my notary certification and was ready to embark on this new venture.
The Unexpected Turn: Adapting to Circumstances
Just as I was getting started, life threw a curveball. In March 2020, on my birthday, I was laid off from my job due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Faced with uncertainty, I made a pivotal decision the very next day. I placed an order for all the supplies I would need to jumpstart my notary business. By May 2020, I completed my first assignment for a home purchase, and the excitement of being part of a team that helped someone embark on their next journey was incredibly fulfilling.
Rapid Growth: Seizing Opportunities
Over the next few months, I became more active in the loan signing business, working with local and title companies on HELOCs, refinances, seller-side transactions, and various other loan documents. The drop in interest rates during the pandemic created a surge in demand for loan signing services, and I was able to help many customers during this critical time. Additionally, I expanded my services to include power of attorney, trusts, and other legal documents, making a tangible difference in my clients’ lives.
The Next Pivot: Adapting to Market Changes
As the pandemic progressed, the market began to shift. By 2022, rising interest rates led to a decreased demand for loan signing agents. Recognizing the need to pivot once again, I transitioned to providing general notary services with a mobile twist, ensuring convenience and flexibility for my clients. This change required me to return to my previous job while continuing to manage my notary business.
Balancing Act: Learning Time Management
Balancing a full-time job, raising five kids, and running a business demanded exceptional time management skills. I had to meticulously plan my days, prioritizing tasks to ensure that I met my professional and personal responsibilities effectively. This period was challenging, but it taught me invaluable lessons in resilience and adaptability.
Expanding Skills: Embracing Continuous Learning
Throughout these last couple years, I seized every opportunity to expand my skill set. I gained expertise in AI web design, obtained a CNA license, and working towards becoming a Trained Medication Aide (TMA). I also became a Certified Medical Courier and a tax preparer, diversifying my abilities to better serve my community and enhance my professional growth.
