We were lucky to catch up with Donisha Brewley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donisha, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In 2022, I decided to rebrand Irreplicable Brand and begin to market the brand as a company that could deliver custom products and experiences even if done in the masses. We worked really hard to gain a strong following and to build a report with all of the people who would support IB in any way. We implemented new services such as virtual and in-person styling, closet revamping, decluttering assistance, and of course designing new lines to share as well as pushing the Tr22S3lf line. This was a big risk to take, branching out to do new things, especially writing a short book on styling, we had no idea if anyone would buy what we were pushing. But a leap of faith definitely showed there are people out there that still see you and the hard work you put in.
Towards the end of the year, we had a minor setback in the quality of our products that caused us to stop production for a while. We decided to take a step back to find new materials and to provide the best quality clothing for our customers. We continued to do styling at this time, but it hadn’t pulled as much traction as we had hoped. This was a big mental hurdle to overcome, and we had to pull ourselves out of the rut after losing traction on our social media platforms. We’re still in the process of trying test samples and putting out some quality clothes but we have faith that the summer has so much in store as return to where we once were.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Irreplicable Brand started out of love. I made my first hand-painted piece for my ex as a Valentine’s Day gift because nothing I could’ve bought could have been enough to express my feelings. I continued to make sentimental pieces and art for the people that I loved to show my love for them, and to create something they’d never see any place else. The name took some time to create as well but it works so well with our vision. It’s something you’ll probably only see once and the definition is up to your individual interpretation. “We are dedicated to staying true to our originality and celebrating collaborations with like-minded brands.” We create custom clothes in bulk, design our own t-shirts, hand paint all of our denim, and personally style you to your preferences. We feel like this sets us apart because no one is doing all of these things as a collective. We are also focused on catering more to the individual as a whole rather than tailoring clothes to the masses. This is why we assist in every part of the process starting with the decluttering, the right way to buy things back, the thought process that goes into getting dressed, and all the questions a novice fashionista/o would have, or just someone trying to switch things up. We’re most proud of the overall growth that we’ve seen in the past year and how far we’ve come in 3 years. We’re proud of our reach and how much of an impact we’ve made on our communities as well, picking up partnerships that we never thought imaginable.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My biggest goal for IB is to create outfits or style people in the fashion industry and see my designs on runways around the world. I think the concept of one-size, one-of-a-kind clothing is one that should be seen on a broader scale. I know that we have the capability to do so but we’re still fighting to crack the code. Seeing that the journey isn’t as easy as most people make it seem, drives us to continue to go hard and to step out of our comfort zone.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Share our work!! Support is FREE and people act like it costs so much to share the work you do and it hinders small businesses because we depend on our first ring of friends to share our work and take it beyond the immediate circle.
