We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Donecia Wilson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Donecia , thanks for joining us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name of my brand comes from my moniker. I knew I wanted something unique that hinted at the services provided. My close friends call me Necia, so my love for writing helped me come up with a brand that fits me. From those two things, Necia Always Writes was born.

Donecia , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Necia Always Writes was fueled by my blog content on Black Girl Magic Unscripted and Queen Media Collective. I would always have individuals inquire about me offering services, but I wasn’t sure what would be my industry niche. I started off writing content for a local non-profit, Support 2 Inspire, and ghostwriting for other people. I started to see a demand for my services for smaller businesses. With that insight Necia Always Writes became a content-writing business that specializes in creating content for freelancers, creatives, and entrepreneurs. I realized that most content writing services only focus on corporations, established businesses, and academia. I saw the need to help smaller businesses and individuals just starting in their industry. Some people have a great plan or idea, and just need the right words to reach their audience. We offer services such as resume revision, academic revision, grant writing, and formal documentation for businesses such as donation letters, and service inquiries, and we also offer website revamps.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part is seeing my work help others achieve their goals. My clients come to me with their ideas and with my words I open doors for them. I like receiving feedback that a letter, business plan, or even resume helped my clients get into a space that they couldn’t enter at one point. With that positive feedback, I know that my path in this industry is aligned with my purpose. Being a creative is more than just putting something together; it’s about making a mark in an industry that sometimes only supports popularity.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Honestly, I don’t believe that non-creatives exist; everyone has a gift that they can use to change the world. I just believe that most people don’t take the time to hone it or tap into it. I think the biggest misconception about creatives is that content is easy to create. Being a creative requires you to think in different ways, look at the bigger and smaller picture, and even pull inspiration from places other people can’t see. Creatives are always thinking about how to improve their craft in a manner that will be conducive. Our way of seeing the world, color, words, art, or even moments is different from those that have different views.
