We were lucky to catch up with Donald Sanders recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donald, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My parents did everything right in my eyes. Both my mom and dad have given me constant support throughout my journey. My mom is the whole reason I was able to get my hands on a camera in the first place. Without her believing in me and trusting that I would make something out of it is part of the reason “Flicksbyvonnie” exists. Both of my parents have always moved through life with my needs before their own and that is something that I am forever appreciative of. My mom made sure that I went to college and graduated. There was times I felt like it was to much but they both pushed me to continue. They both instilled and fighters mentality in me. No matter how many times you get knocked down you have to get back up. That mentality allowed me to turn failures into lessons. It is all apart of the journey. My mom is the owner of her own company “Miami Beat” which she put together herself. I watched her build an empire from the ground up and I couldn’t be more proud of her achievements. I am extremely excited to see where she takes the business and the journey that she is on. My dad is the owner of “Dreamers Dream” and he also built that from the ground up. I am extremely grateful for all the sacrifices that my parents have made for me and I hope to reach their status one day. But I am going to take it one day at a time. They both have the blueprint to success and I am building one just like them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Davon Sanders and I am “Flicksbyvonnie.” I was introduced to both photography and videography when I went to college. Taking the different production courses offered as well as working with other creatives who attended Benedict College such as my guy Jaire Aton and Charles Durr who are also photographers and videographers who goes by “boogshotit” on instagram. They both were apart of the Direction and creation of the short film “Unhappy” in which I was able to get hands on film production experience. I also have to that Patrick Rutledge who showed me the ropes of what the film industry and photography can be. I don’t think I am the same person I am without his critique and guidance. As a business I offer a variety of services . To name a few I offer photoshoots, sports photography and videography, as well as edits. I am constantly working to perfect my craft and add more to my services. I am extremely proud of the improvements I have made since I first began taking photos. Being a new business I am proud to see that it is receiving attention even if that is just one person a day. I will always be grateful for the people who take time out of their day to visit my page or repost something to their story. It helps far more than they could imagine.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the positive feedback from clients and peers. Editing those pictures and having someone say “aw man those look good” or in the middle of some of the shots showing the client what they look like and they can’t contain their excitement. It really puts a smile on my face.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One of my goals is to be apart of a sports media crew for the big leagues. I love sports and it has always been a dream to be a camera operator for a major sports network. I just have fun with my camera and that is what drives me to continue to perfect my craft.
