We were lucky to catch up with Donald Robertson Jr recently and have shared our conversation below.
Donald, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
For me, the ultimate goal was to always do for self. In my mind, I wanted to create a company that best represent me personally and professionally. The idea came to me back in 2016 when I was at work. I knew at some point that I was destined to control my narrative and to display my talents to the world. During that time, I felt that I wasn’t in the best financial position to start up a company when my idea was so new to me. I witness a lot of small businesses being formed but fail to maintain stability due to financial hardship or the lack of strategic planning. I knew my time was coming but I was willing to be patient to develop something that means more than just myself. Having the ability to move the way that you want while taking the time to execute what you want is truly special! Everything is in your hands, and nobody can tell you different. Working in sales and learning how the company operates allowed me to gather information on how to conduct business the right way! I was a student knowing that this will help me build my foundation. I experienced a lot of disbelief, self-doubt, frustration because I felt like I wasn’t prepared when mentally I wanted to be. I grew and understood that if you want it, you have to move on your pace and not look at others. Four years later in 2020, I felt that it was time to take advantage of what was in front of me, TIME! I was able to come up with the name, design my logos and started to invest in myself. Filed for my LLC and took it even further to have everything licensed. At this point, I wasn’t looking back. I was only looking forward and knowing that my company will be recognized and here to stay. I realized that the business can’t move if you are not moving. I have to figure out the style of equipment, developing a business page, e-commerce and so much more and making sure that I am following all guidelines and requirements to have my company operating effectively and efficiently. Now, I’m just so grateful to deliver what I vision for myself, and my customers can now see what my hard work is now a reality!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Throughout my whole life, I always been into drawing, creating and designing. I love art period! Everything that was related to art I was highly invested in. I knew that I wanted to take my talents and transition into owning my business. I received my undergraduate degree from Shaw University studying Business and the lessons that was taught from my professors, I wanted to combine both together. I always knew that this is what I wanted for myself. Graduated with a master’s degree in business from Grand Canyon University so I wanted to gain a deeper understanding for what it takes to properly maintain a successful business. I’m very big on learning and developing new strategies to perform on a higher level. What truly got me in this industry is being inspired by major companies such as Nike, Banna Republic, and many others due to what they stand for. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
There are a couple of things that really help build my reputation within my market is having a supportive cast. Being surrounded by people that sees your potential and knowing that you are striving to gain interest helps build trust by what you stand for. They become your word of mouth since the business is in its beginning stages for success. Another which was the primary source for my gain was creating content. Making videos or taking pictures of my work really helped to separate what my peers in this industry was doing. Allowing the audience to see details on how I am creating my products was very important to demonstrate how my company and I performs. People want to see your work. Creating that narrative in their mind draws attention to see what we have to offer to the public. The more I am able to share, the more I can reach out to potential customers to give them a reason to consider my company for business.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Advertising is a key source to building the audience that you need especially for social media. You have come to acceptance when you know ultimately what your mission is. Social media is a great way to target your market. It helps introduce your company so that potential buyers are able to see the company’s availability and services. It is a process so don’t expect to see results right away! Understand that you are new, and it will take time to build it the way how you see it. Always remember to keep the main objective relevant and stay consistent. I realized that the more you are posting and sharing, your attraction will grow! There will be a time when you are not sharing but deliver when you have the time to. I enjoy taking advantage of social media for my business. You never know who is watching and that one opportunity can be just a click away from buying a product that you sell.
