We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Don Loum. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Don below.
Alright, Don thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I learned what I did by experience. The modeling industry and route to becoming a model is different for everyone. Knowing what I do now I would have stepped out of my comfort zone earlier and started making connections a lot earlier than I initially did. modeling is all about self-expression and putting yourself out on the market. Regarding obstacles, I’d say the thing that challenged me most was being patient with yourself and your creativity.
Don, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I got into the industry through a lot of pursuits and hard work. Apart from God and the support of my family I worked and took advice from various people in the industry and photographers in San Diego specifically Eyga Mojus (The Director of San Diego Swim Week) and Ryan Doerr ( One of my favorite photographers to work with ), and they all really helped push me to get more exposure and put myself out there on the market to work with bigger brands and different agencies as well. I think what sets me apart from others is just my ability to go for something I’ve never really been scared about trying something new or taking a step outside of the box if I see it and I like it, I go for it. but I also believe that me apart from others is that no matter what the difference is I never cut myself out. it may sound cliché, but the thing I’m most proud of it is just something different from a lot of people. I want to show my followers that you can be different. You can look different and you can still shine. One of my favorite things is defining, the industry expectations. I’ve been very proud to work with Brown, such as Nike, Adidas and Forever, 21 as well but in reality what makes me proud of my work is being able to show others that you do not need to fit industry requirements in order to necessarily be a good model for to be anything you want to be. in this life, you are who you are for a reason and you should embrace who you are and don’t let anything hold you back. apart from being a Model, I’m also an actor, and I really would like to grow myself as a creative in multiple facets of the industry. I really want to push myself especially this upcoming year into daily experience exposure and push myself as far as I can in the industry.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission overall is really just to be a creative outlet and kind of help. Bring people’s ideas to life through modeling. personally, I love creativity whether come from a bigger brand or something that’s smaller. I love it all and I really just like bringing ideas to life so that’s mainly the driving force behind all of this but I just also really really love the industry.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
`For me, the most rewarding part about being a creative is really just getting a chance to meet all the other amazing creatives there is a lot of creativity out and I love hearing other peoples ideas and also going to share my ideas. The world’a a boring place if we don’t have any room for creativity.
