We were lucky to catch up with Don B. recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Don thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
“The Independent Dream Factory “ as a name came pretty easy to my team and I after we broke down what the goal of the company would be. In the beginning, we were 3 independent business owners who benefited from the resources of each other. This lead us to develop our mission statement; “ to create an atmosphere that promotes independent dreams by providing the necessary love, support and resources”.
We wanted a name with a fantasy-like feeling incorporated into the title as well which is where the “factory” comes in. We want to express to everyone that with the right belief system you can bring any dream to our factory and it will come true!
Don, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have always had a passion for discovering other people’s passions and interests and helping bring those aspirations to life. I truly have a deep interest in what drives a person to follow their dreams and I love sharing in that journey.
I started my career working in the fashion industry as an image consultant, building a resume working with music artists and local fashion designers on special shows and other projects. I met my 2 business partners shortly after moving to Orlando, Fl. They each worked in the fashion industry as well and the 3 of us supported each other’s endeavors and eventually, combined resources to collaborate on larger projects including charities and community services.
After the success of our collaborations we decided to form our creative consulting company to help other businesses enhance their projects and events. We also manage a production studio, where we base our headquarters and also produce media content.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I truly believe that strong relationships are essential not only in your career but in life. My success has been solely from the connections I have made and the sincere bonds that I have created throughout my time in the industry.
When I first got started in consulting, I spent years volunteering for any project I found interesting from fashion shows, to concerts, to nonprofit events. Taking time to learn so many different areas built up my experience, but it was the interactions with other dreamers that inspired me the most.
I am grateful to have built up a strong network of business connections based on my early days supporting others and working as a team player.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Something that has been monumental for our company is to create our own projects such as, promotional events, and media content among others. Because we cover such a vast array of clientele, it can be difficult to target a specific demographic. What we have seen to be helpful is to throw our own version of the projects we want to work on. This gives the public the opportunity to see us, see what we have to offer, and see how we can be used directly.
