Domonique, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?

I was born and raised in Inglewood, California. Growing up as a young girl, I fell in love with the science of skin care and the way it would make me feel when I had nice, healthy, glowing skin. I started my business Skin by Domonique in 2019 with a single intention: To offer the highest standard of treatments, that will not only help you to look your best, but to also enhance your total health and wellbeing.

I offer clients result driven facial treatments that are luxurious as they are effective. By intergrading clinical and wellness approaches, my customized treatments address specific factors to enhance the skins condition along with maintaining its integrity. Skin by Domonique’s commitment to serving the needs of women of color, particularly the predominantly black women in the historically black and brown community of Leimert Park, CA.

By being in this area, the business is fulfilling an essential role by providing access to skincare services and products that are specifically tailored to the unique needs of black skin. This is especially significant because it ensures that individuals in the community have the opportunity to patronize a business that understands and prioritizes their specific requirements, and it is easily accessible within walking distance from their homes.

My advice to any young professional that wants to be in the skincare industry is to focus on on education and gaining expertise before you try to venture on your own, and also staying updated on industry trends. networking with professionals, building a strong portfolio, and seeking mentorships can be also valuable. Emphasize communication skills to understand clients’ needs and provide tailored solutions. continuous leaning and a passion for skincare will contribute to a successful career in the industry.

I am a Licensed Esthetician with almost 9 years of industry experience. Growing up as a young girl, I fell in love with the science of skin care and the way it would make me feel when I had nice, healthy, glowing skin. I am most proud of achieving positive transformations for clients, promoting skin health, and instilling confidence through my expertise and care. Building lasting relationships with satisfied clients is a rewarding aspect of being a skincare professional and I am truly grateful from the bottom of my heart for the community that I have built in my business.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy that has worked for me to build a clientele was to build strong relationships and provide exceptional value. Understanding my clients’ needs, communicating effectively, and consistently delivering quality work. Utilizing social media, networking, and word of mouth referrals have helped me grow my clientele as well.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?

If I could go back, I would choose the profession I am currently in because being an Esthetician truly does fulfill and make me happy.
