We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominykas Bytautas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominykas below.
Alright, Dominykas thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
Ugly Side Up is by far the project I am most proud of. What started as a solo project in my studio apartment in Austin, Texas blossomed into a band that has sold out venues and has been on a successful tour, something I’ve only ever dreamed of. Songwriting for me was always an outlet and this band provides that space for me to be creative. The members of the band understand our mission and goals, and that’s to release catchy music and to have fun. I consider myself eternally lucky that I discovered my passion for music from an early age and was encouraged to pursue this passion. I know too many people who are still searching or have given up, so I’m just grateful that writing, recording, and performing music is still something I love to this day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the music industry through my love for music. I’ve been writing and recording music since middle school, and most of my band members would say the same thing. We love playing shows together as Ugly Side Up and every show we play is more fun than the one before. I speak for the band when I say we are most proud of our live show. We put on an energetic performance that encourages singing along, dancing, screaming, moshing, everything you can think of. We’re proud of the music we’ve created and can’t wait for what else is to come.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is knowing music gives me a voice and knowing listeners can find their voice too with my music. Countless strangers have come up to us after a show to compliment our songs and live performance, and for me, there is no greater compliment. Just knowing someone can connect to what I have written means the world to me, it helps us all feel less alone. That’s why I love music so much and why I will never stop creating.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Our goal as a band is to make a living from creating and playing music. As a collective, we feel like our true selves on stage and through our artistic expression so being able to do this full time is our mission. I don’t think any of us have goals for fame and glamour, we just want to be able to express ourselves and have the time to commit ourselves entirely to our art. I honestly wish this for everyone who finds their voice through an art.
