Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Vachon. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
I started La Beautique with just one employee, myself. So I wore all of the hats and I relied on only myself to achieve success. This is a lot of weight on one person, so as I slowly grew the company and was able to start to rely on others, I learned a different view and feeling of what success is to me. Over the eight years I have owned my salon company, I have learned that if you can build a team of people and put your energy into creating happiness and success for them, you in turn become successful. I now base my success on the success of those around me and helping others achieve their dreams and goals. There is nothing more rewarding than to be able to teach others what I know and showing them how amazing they are!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Dominique Vachon, I am the Owner of La Beautique Salon. I am also a hairstylist, makeup artist and educator within the company. At this point in my career, I grow people for a living! Every day that I work in the salon, behind the chair with guests, I am always working with an associate to educate them and help them graduate our training program so they can start to take their own guests. When I was young, I knew I always wanted to be a hairstylist but I also loved teaching, so now I get the best of both worlds. We have worked very hard to create a kind and positive environment at La Beautique Salon so that everyone and anyone feels welcome the moment they walk in, as a guest or an employee. We have grown so much over the past eight years, and our La Beautique family keeps getting bigger!
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been word of mouth and referrals from our existing guests as well as asking guests to write us reviews on Google & Yelp. We also keep up to date content on our social media platforms and website so when potential new guests find us online, they can see our most recent work.
Any advice for managing a team?
Managing a team is really hard! My best advice is to always have a positive attitude and lead with love. I do my best to be the calmest person in the room every day, even when I’m not always feeling that way, but it truly helps set the standard of what I expect of others in my company. I also have a zero tolerance policy for any unkind behavior, we address issues within the team immediately and work together to create a resolution so that we can avoid similar issues in the future. With that said, I also have an open door policy and welcome people to come to me at any time to talk through anything that they may need help addressing. I feel this helps keep the morale high because we are able get rid of negative energy and negative behavior very quickly!
