We were lucky to catch up with Dominique Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe that success in any business comes down to a few key principles. First and foremost, it’s about providing the best possible experience for your clients. Your clients, whether past, current, or future, are your most powerful marketing tool. If you deliver an exceptional experience, they’re likely to refer you to people they know, which is vital to continued brand growth.
Another key to success is leading with the intention of doing a great job and giving your all, rather than chasing the money. When your work is driven by passion, it shines through in your interactions with clients, creating genuine, positive relationships. When you focus on doing a great job, the checks will come. For me, the most fulfilling moments aren’t just about closing deals but seeing the joy and satisfaction on my clients’ faces when they’ve accomplished their real estate goal.
Lastly, you have to perfect your craft. This means continuously learning new things, learning from mistakes, prioritizing education, and keeping your knowledge and skills up-to-date as the industry evolves. I truly believe you’re never too experienced or knowledgeable to learn something new. This commitment to growth and improvement is a core part of my approach to success.
Dominique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into real estate started with a lifelong fascination with homes and design. Growing up, I remember watching home renovation, flipping & landscaping shows, dreaming about flipping houses and even sketching my own custom floor plans. While those experiences laid the foundation, going through the process of purchasing my first home at 25 unlocked my passion to help others achieve their real estate goals.
Licensed in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., I assist clients in buying, selling, and investing in real estate, working with everyone from first-time & repeat homebuyers & sellers to experienced investors. My goal is to make the process as smooth and stress-free as possible, while also educating my clients so they feel empowered in their decisions. Client service is my top priority, and I’m committed to delivering the highest level of professionalism, respect, and integrity in every transaction.
When I’m not working with clients, I’m either designing for my clothing line, spending time with family and friends, traveling, or working on real estate investment projects like fix-and-flip properties. I’d love for potential clients to know that whether they’re looking for an agent locally or out of state, I’m here to guide them through the process, making it as enjoyable and successful as possible.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients for me has been referrals and word of mouth. To date, majority of my business has come from these sources. I have clients who I haven’t even completed a transaction with yet, some who won’t be ready to start for several months, who are already referring new clients to me. Combined with referrals from past clients, this has become my biggest source of new business. I believe it’s a testament to the relationships I build, the value I provide and the trust I establish with each client, even before we officially begin working together. Knowing that my clients are confident enough in my service to recommend me to others is incredibly rewarding.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I make it a priority to stay in touch with clients well beyond the transaction by sending messages, cards (and sometimes gifts LOL) for birthdays, home anniversaries and Christmas. I also do periodic check-ins throughout the year just to check in on them and their families. Reaching out after the transaction has ended helps to strengthen & maintain my relationship with my clients by showing them, they were more than just a transaction to me. These small gestures go a long way in fostering brand loyalty.
