Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Robinson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Alright, let’s jump into one of the most exciting parts of starting a new firm – how did you get your first client who was not a friend or family?
My first client was Kochease, Platinum producer of ‘I Know You See It” by Yung Joc. He heard about me through word of mouth from an executive in the music industry in Atlanta, who knew I was interested in assisting creatives and professionals with getting their RIAA and Billboard plaques. Kochease previously received his RIAA Platinum plaque for Yung Joc’s ‘I Know You See It’ and Gold plaque for the ‘New Joc City’ album, but he was missing his ‘I Know You See It’ Billboard plaque.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I moved to Atlanta in 2009 to pursue my career in the entertainment industry. While living in Atlanta, I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University and Associates in Small Group Management from Purdue University Global. After obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree I formed my company, Defynition of Success Entertainment. I focus on consulting, music distribution, artist/producer management and development, music and beat placements, finding royalties for artist and producers, and requesting RIAA certified plaques for writers, artists, producers, DJs, and Indie Labels that have earned Gold or Platinum plaques. I am proud to say my first year I assisted with getting 18 RIAA and Billboard plaques.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I was able to build my reputation in the entertainment industry by assisting with getting RIAA and Billboard plaques. Once I proved that I was able to get plaques, creatives and professionals were more likely to give me the opportunity to work with them. Once I started working with them, I continued to build my reputation with my positive attitude and work ethic.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients come from word of mouth and social media. I receive a bulk of my new clients from word of mouth. Whether it is for the plaques, entertainment business, or production and writing from my producers that I manage, Tha SupaNaturalZ, a lot of those clients return or tell their fellow creatives about my company’s services. Social media has also been a plus for my business. I like to use post, stories, hashtags, and ads to promote services, which has helped me to expand my business relations outside of the state of Georgia.
