We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dominique Reed. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dominique below.
Hi Dominique, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned everything by using resources available no schooling I was self-taught if I can do it, I believe anyone can. You just need a lot of motivation and dedication to be a successful graphic designer. The first thing I did was INVEST in myself by getting the equipment needed, doesn’t mean you need the best to start off. I then downloaded Adobe Photoshop it is a monthly subscription, learning how to use the program was the biggest challenge. I invested time into watching tutorial’s paying for courses to gain the knowledge to be able to effectively provide quality artwork to my clients. Once I felt capable enough to produce quality art, I started to create CONCEPT ART to put my work to the public’s eye. Developing a niche of your own is key in the field of wok being able to stand against other creatives is important, so learning new techniques will help you go far. I am consistently learning and adding to my craft weekly if not daily. Creating daily is the key even if it’s just fun. …CREATE!
I could have not done anything to speed up the process… it’s all a learning process it takes time. The more time you put in the more results you get. The only obstacles I’ve run into is learning curves things I’m not familiar with can be challenging but I just use my resources like YouTube to learn a new technique

Dominique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Answered this in the first question.
i am proud of my ability to learn new things and being able to implement them into my new projects. Also getting to help with high profile projects is refreshing.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Some resources I knew about when I first started designing would be, PixelSquid for high quality 3D images and PNGS. Comes in handy and saves plenty of time. Adobe Color Wheel this is a color wheel which generates color patterns for you if you feel like you’re using the same patterns or pallets. Behance is good for free assets which is really the life of a designer the more assets you have more free range you have to create.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I think if you currently are employed you should use that money or income to fund/invest in your products or equipment, this can be very effective in not having to always use profits made from your startup company or brand.
