We recently connected with Dominique Ransom and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
what I truly think it takes to become a successful person is really being able to take a step back in your own identity, and realize what will be profitable for for long-term success, and just making sure that every decision that you make for your company, or for your employees that is not a selfishly-based decision. I have watched many people only have their backs as a business and I just don’t think that’s the way that you should operate . fortunately, I have worked a lot of corporate jobs in my lifetime before becoming a Tattooer. I definitely understand. It takes a strong management and strong owner to have a successful team..

Dominique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
how you got into your industry :
I definitely fell in love with my industry in middle school, my best friends, mom on the tattoo shop in was a Tattoo Artist so I definitely got to set my eyes early on in this career and it definitely just spoke to me as a creative human.
when I was a legal age of 18, I was able to get a piercing apprenticeship and that’s how I first got into the tattoo and piercing industry. I was a body piercer for about 12 years I did decide to stop body piercing when I opened Lilac to provide income and career growth for other individuals.
I learned to Tattoo when I moved to Virginia beach in 2015-2106
I returned to Texas in the 2017 -2018 year and then I worked at my very first tattoo shop in Fort Worth, for about a Year. I was lucky enough to be given an opportunity to work in a high traffic well-established tattoo shop in Dallas. I worked there for 3 years. I went to work for another company in Dallas for about 1 year and then I decided it was time for me to open my own studio!
discipline :
I truly do believe that I have some crazy discipline as a person, the way that I personally put myself at these high expectations. I just think that it makes me able to take on a lot at once and delegate it appropriately. It definitely has taken some years to get this under way, but I’m very happy that I was able to establish a discipline in my tattooing and other areas of my life like my personal training journey with the gym.
what type of services:
I lilac Tattoo Studio we offer body piercings with only high implant grade or 14 karat gold materials, and we also provide tattooing and permanent make up.
important about my brand:
It’s really important for me to broadcast at all times that we are LBGTQ A+ super friendly environment. Also, we are a black owned business and we are very supporting all communities and all walks of life. We will never turn away anybody for their tattooed needs – based on their personal lives.
How did you build your audience on social media?
so this is definitely one of my favorite stories to tell because I think that the social media part of a business definitely is underrated.
I definitely would not be where I am today on social media if it was not for my friend and social media marketer, Nick Flores.
She herself has her own Instagram following very big in the LGBTQA+ Community and I had a tattoo appointment with her one day, and she looked at me and told me that she was going to make a viral TikTok.
At the time i didn’t value excaty what was said to me because I did not have a TikTok and I’m definitely not big into social media, so it kind of just went on deaf ears because I was just not educated enough. but overall obviously, I was grateful that she was wanting to take her personal time to make a video go showcasing my business.
Oh boy did that slap me in the face the next morning I walked into the shop on a Sunday. The phone was ringing like every 30 seconds, and I just had a multitude of people everywhere, and at the time of this situation happening, there was only four of us, providing Tattoo services, including myself.
I was very overwhelmed what was going on and everybody kept repeating to me, TikTok, TikTok and I was like we don’t have a TikTok what are you talking about and then that’s when my eyes sat on the very TikTok that Nick made which actually went viral It was at that point in time over 1 million views
That is when I knew that it was essential that she become a part of my team, because there is no way in hell that I could do any of this on my own and run a business full-time
I was so blessed with the fact that Nick supported what I was doing and wanted to come on and she has done a fantastic job at everything that she has ever done for the face value of Lilac on the Internet and all of the behind-the-scenes things that she has set up for us.
I really think it’s important for businesses to understand how important it is to hand off their social media to somebody that has a passion for it because they definitely will do far more with it in your mind could ever imagine.
I am so blessed to be able to have her as such a close friend now and as building such a business bond, I definitely cannot see myself doing any of this without her by my side !

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I truly think that the reputation that I have built overtime has just come for me staying true to myself, and also a accepting when I have messed up.
I am definitely not perfect and there has been some times in the two years of my business that I have spoke too soon about a situation or handle the situation incorrectly but I am very open to constructive criticism and I definitely take it to heart and I try to do better every single time
just no matter how much money opportunities is present in front of you or any other opportunities that are present in front of you that you never stray away from the main goal in the main passions of why you started this !
