We recently connected with Dominique Payne and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We love heartwarming stories – do you have a heartwarming story from your career to share?
I’ll start off by saying, I didn’t plan on becoming a personal trainer, let alone leaded classes. The main goal in the beginning was to be healthier for myself, but then this became something I enjoyed. People would complement me on how well I was doing, and how great I looked and that really helped me boost my confidence and self esteem. Doing this job is so rewarding because I’m help women just like myself. Not sure where to start or who to turn to for guidance, but seeing the excitement and smiles on my clients faces when they’ve reached a goal is the main prize. I cherish those moments.

Dominique, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Well my name is Dominique Payne, and I am a full time personal trainer and the founder of Pretty Payne Fit. I decided to become a fitness trainer after I started personal training with Jessica Foyah, Owner of Unique Fitness. I desperately wanted to lose weight and feel better about myself. In the beginning the goal was to lose weight and tone my body, then it became something I fell in love with. I have now achieved that goal and I want to use my skills, experience, and own journey to help others achieve their own fitness goals.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn and continue to unlearn is consistency and discipline. I’ll start off with discipline because it is a form of self love, do you love yourself enough to want to be better and doing better? You have to show up when you don’t want to, even on the bad days. You must choose to never give up. Next is consistency because it’s not about being perfect, do it for you, your health, your energy, self respect and of course the cute clothes. Lol but seriously, the only way you’ll see true results is by staying consistent in your journey. No one’s journey will ever be the same and will have a different experience and outcome. Make yours your own.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being myself would be the top reason why I’ve been successful and succeed in my career. I will never sell a fantasy or dream to anyone. Working out is HARD! Don’t let anyone tell you different and it takes time. Our bodies fluctuate all the time and we don’t get the results in the time we expected but if you truly want it, you’ll stick with it. Also, STOP GETTING ON THE SCALE EVERYDAY. Lol (ladies). I tell this to all my clients the scale is your worst enemy. It is the quicks way to become discouraged. Just know that work your putting in will always show as long as your giving it your all in and out the gym.
