Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique (niek 2iceyy) Hunter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique (Niek 2iceyy), thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Yes I have been mischaracterized and misunderstood because of where I am from and my past. Growing up my life was tough, I was a subject to poverty and project living. So many times in life I have been judged by the color of my skin and even sometimes my beliefs as a christian. I never let those phase my growth or get in the way of my dreams. I use the negativity as a fuel to do better and prove people wrong. The worst experience i’ve had with this is being jumped and beat down and slammed on my head by 6 police officers when I was 19 years old. where I was left with a level 3 concussion and still at the age of 33 I have mental health issues and migraines because of that head trauma damage. Yes it hurt me but I grew stronger and continue to fight my mental health issues. However, things have gotten better over the last year.
Dominique (Niek 2iceyy), love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
All throughout my life I have been in the sports and entertainment industry since the age of 6. My first passion was football where I was an amazing running back/wide receiver, defensive Safety, and shutdown cornerback. During my senior year in high school I suffered from a major thumb injury that caused me to lose my playing time for the year and I lost all of my scholarships and college recruiters who were watching me and ready to take me to the next level. Because of that it resulted into me becoming a music artist where I write my pain and dreams and bring them to life with my words. I started writing at the age of 8years old so poetry and song writing was something that I was always great at. I eventually started taking it seriously at the age of 17 once I knew that I would not go anywhere in sports. Now I have had many major achievements in the music industry and have made it farther than I ever thought I would go. I now have my own clothing brand as well as started my entertainment company under IceyyWorld Entertainment, LLc. I am most proud of pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Entertainment Business at Full Sail University where I obtained my degree in 2023. Now I have found myself back into all of the industries that I love the most. I currently work in Guest Services with Orlando Magic in the sports sector, I am still pursuing my Music career, Working in stage management at major music & live events. It also feels great to be mentored by a grammy nominated Violinist by the name of Michelle Jones. I am also working alongside Film/tv production crews as an Actor or extra help with sound and production management for the sets.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
There are many reasons behind my creative journey but the most important reason is to one day help to save my mother from a bad sickness that she has been suffering from since I turned 10 years old. This sickness is called Multiple Sclerosis. It attacks the hosts brain and causes major problems with her mental health and physical abilities. My father on the other hand has an illness called chronic arthritis. So my major goal in life is to find cures that can help parents live a healthier life again or to save people in the future from these terrible life changing conditions. If I were to not make where I want to be in the entertainment industry I would one day pursue a life in science and medicine to help cure people and make a change in the world.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In order to support the ecosystem, I think society could be more kind and helpful to one another. We live in a society where some people just do not care about another persons life, health, safety or struggle. We walk past the homeless and less fortunate families instead of helping them. Cyber bullying is at an all time high causing many creatives to go down a negative path and sometimes have suicidal tendencies. We also have these selfish ways of not wanting to support other people. So I feel that if there was more real support for creatives and the world around us. Our society could be a better place. If the value money were taken away from society we would all probably lose our minds. So I feel that one day if the richest people in society were able to care more about the less fortunate and find ways to spread wealth around the world and into the communities that live in poverty. There would be less crime and more time for happiness and living a healthy life. I also feel that more homeless shelters and resources should be provided for these lost people and unprotected veterans who suffer from illnesses caused by war and trauma.
