We recently connected with Dominique Morgan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dominique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I originally came up with the idea when I was in college but I didn’t know what to call it exactly. I knew I loved working as an admin and helping to streamline workflows, as well as making the work environment easier for my coworkers. However, I wanted to do this from home and had no clue how to get started. Also, I was a broke college student like most of us usually are, and decided I couldn’t afford to be a starving entrepreneur at the time. I eventually let go of the idea. Fast forward to covid and here I am furloughed, 5 months away from completing my MBA, and unsure of what I was going to do.
I started realizing that I didn’t want to work for anyone else again, and I needed to put my MBA to use. I didn’t want to be the glorified secretary anymore. So I started searching for jobs working from home when I came across a course about becoming a virtual assistant in 3 months or less. I started to dig deeper into what this was and realized this is exactly what I’d been wanting to do the entire time. So, I finished my Masters in August, signed up for the course, and made my business legit that same year in November.
I knew this would work because I’d already had years of experience working the front desk and solving admin issues that would pop up, I had just never done it virtually. However, thanks to covid it pretty much put everyone online, so it wasn’t a crazy idea to virtually hire someone for admin, social media, or customer service. I felt that I was solving the problem of CEO’s not having time for anything else but work. My main goal was to take care of the small things that take up their time. Calling back clients, scheduling them, or even engagement on social media. We don’t realize how much time we put into the backend of our businesses until we give up all of these little tasks.
What got me most excited about my business personally was the location freedom, schedule flexibility, and being able to cultivate clients that align with me. Being my own boss was something I always dreamed of and I finally have it! It allows me to pivot when I need to which, I’ve recently done by offering online business manager services.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got into my industry by simply wanting more flexibility with who I worked with, where I worked, and when. I took a 90-day course to become a virtual assistant, but I’ve since pivoted to an online business manager. For a limited time I’m and still taking on VA clients for social media management, scheduling, customer service, as well as blog writing/editing. I’m now offering team management, operations management, SOP creation, and project management.
I feel like I solve the problem of my clients not having to deal with the boring time-consuming tasks they usually do. I want my clients to be able to use their time more efficiently when it comes to their business, or even feel like they can take a break if they need to without feeling guilty. Burnout is real and I do everything I can to make sure they experience that as little as possible.
I think what sets me apart from others is that I truly give a damn lol. I really care about the work I do for my clients and I’m always willing to go above and beyond instead of the bare minimum just to get by. I think what I’m most proud of is seeing my clients happy when I solve a problem or take something off of their hands that they were dreading. It’s always great to get a text or email saying, “have I told you how amazing you are”. It’s awesome to be able to get work done but also be a listening ear for the frustrations that come along with being a CEO/entrepreneur.
The main thing I want everyone to know about me is that you’re not just a number. I truly care about your business, and your vision and helping you to reach certain goals. I’m also not going to sugarcoat anything either so if something isn’t looking too good, I will speak up. My clients also get a little tough love from me when they’re overwhelmed and forget that I’m there to help them. My goal is always to create the most relaxing work environment possible.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn very early on not to compare my journey to everyone else’s. it’s easy to get caught up in the highlights from someone else’s journey on social media but you never truly know what they’re going through or what it took for them to get where they are. I found myself getting into soem pretty dark places because I compared business and brand to what everyone else was doing. I realized at one of my lowest moments that I had to stop. If you’re looking at someone else while you’re running a race, then how can you see what’s in front of you? I had to stay on track and focus on myself. So, what if you’re not making 10k a month yet like some of these other entrepreneurs that you’ve seen? You’ll get there eventually! Your journey is what makes you YOU and will set you apart from everyone else.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think me moving from my hometown of Boston to Charleston was a time I had to pivot. My car broke down the day I was supposed to leave town and I had a total meltdown lol. I thought this meant I wasn’t supposed to go and that I was kidding myself by wanting to start somewhere new. However, my amazing grandfather asked me if I really wanted to leave, I said yes, and he helped me get down here. Reluctantly I might add lol. He didn’t really want me to move but he could see that I was ready for something different.
Now here I was in Charleston with no car, no job, and no apartment. Within two weeks I had my job. The week after that I had my apartment and the month after that I finally bought my car. Everything worked out better than I could have imagined. Even though I had a few breakdowns (let’s be real), I kept going because I would never forgive myself if I gave up and went back home.
