We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dominique Levi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dominique, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
It took me so long to figure out what to name my business. Countless moments of changing it over and over. I thought I could put my last name to it instead of my last name. Then I thought why I do it. I do it because it always been in my Family for generations. Every album that is open there was always a story to be told and it was a sacred moment that was captured. And I knew that I wanted to do that for other families as well. That’s how levisacred Photography came to be.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Oh my! Where should I start first. Lol let’s see! I remember taking pictures with my phone of everything. Cities, people, family gatherings, everything! And I remember my grandfather gave me my first little digital camera and from there I ran with it from there. Always at the library pulling books off the shelf that has everything to do with a camera and digital camera as well as editing. Once I starting working and saved enough for my first canon rebel t6. I started practicing even more and then soon enough o was asked to do my first shoot which was a newborn photoshoot. Even though I had so many people doubt me and didn’t believe in me because of my age as well. I still kept going mot to prove anything to just them but myself as well , that I can do it not matter what hard or easy. Slow or fast. No matter what shoot I’m doing I cheer on my clients and my models whether shy or not , because they look amazing and I want them to feel like family even though I just have met them or not. I want to make every visit feel like a fun warm adventure.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn how to not make my work look like everyone else’s. I was always used to doing it one way and comparing which I such a bad word in ANY business. So I had to find my own niche and it was at first so hard but then I took a step back and was able to see what everyone else might not see or miss. And then that’s when my wheels could stop turning I was so eager to improve and to keep going with every fun idea I had.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I started posted almost 4 times a week. Nature and all, but realized that nature wasn’t my thing but the attention I was getting for them. But I also had to remember that people also want to see me whether it be in my story or my feed. For those who are starting off I would say post everything you have. Then once you count keeps getting up. Then go through and archive some then post more.On e you have and found your niche then your are solid form there. Remember to keep your profile details organized. And make sure that the people you follow. You go through almost everyday and comment/like/share.
