We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dominique LaTrice a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dominique, thanks for joining us today. Day to day the world can seem like a tough place, but there’s also so much kindness in the world and we think talking about that kindness helps spread it and make the world a nicer, kinder place. Can you share a story of a time when someone did something really kind for you?
Well, its kind of hard to choose the kindest thing because I truly have so many moments to choose from..but deeply when I sit back and reminisce on life, people, experiences. I have met some genuine people, they don’t know me, but when strangers see me and recognize me say to me, “hey aren’t you that Dominique LaTrice Model?” or “I remember you at a fashion show, etc..” Its sweet and very humbling that someone remembers ME, lil ole me; my art, my work on social media. You know I’m not famous or anything, but my art speaks for me and the respect that I have from my peers/fans & others its genuine and I don’t take it for granted at all. It makes me want to work harder and do more with my craft. Now that I’m older, wiser, & a Mother. I’m not the same woman I was 8 years ago, I’m more focused on my mental, spirituality, & family. I am a Momager to my daughter and son..In the near future hoping to building our family business on how can we give back to others, leave a legacy that God can say job well done.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Print. Fashion. Runway. New York Fashion Week x 2. Model. Momager. Entrepreneur. I have done everything thus far that I’ve prayed for since I was a little girl. I worked my butt off with the help of my amazing photographer Kariss Jones/KT Images Photography. I was presented an opportunity to be a runway model twice in NYFW (one of my biggest dreams). I was always told I couldn’t be a runway model because of my height (I’m 5’5). I must be 5’9 but babyy I didnt give up I wouldn’t take NO for an answer kept submitting until they heard me, seen ME. The rest was history..now my children wants to follow in my footsteps!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My advice is to be YOU, don’t look at what the next person is doing. Focus on YOU, build your own audience. I had my page reported/removed on a all social media outlets. I am now starting over, at first I was like maybe I need to stay under the radar out the way. But, I realized thats what the devil wants, he hates the light. When your light is shining so brightly the devil will try to dim it. You can’t let em’ win! Have a personal relationship with God. Be humble, gracious & as long as you’re pure within everything thats for you will be.
Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
My modeling career began at a young age 18 in high-school, but my parents was cautious for me, now that I’m older I definitely understand why…based on fans believing in me, investing in me. I had an amazing team to bless me. No credit goes to me..All to them (KT Images, Brandon P’IERRE, Brandi Moore, Winsetta Hunter, Karissa Jones, Serika Wright, Rick Cochrane, Debbie Knowles, etc..) So many people to name. They blessed me financially to help me build my Dominique LaTrice brand. And to that I am truly grateful!!!!
