Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dominique Landry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dominique, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My launch into the fitness space doesn’t begin with a heartwarming story. It is quite the opposite. My business is the fruit of the most traumatic event in my life. The unexpected and untimely passing of my eldest sister, who was our family’s angel on earth is the reason I am in this space. Her passing knocked the wind out of me and made me question so many things about life. It also forced me to lean into my natural talents and work to fill the gaping hole of exclusivity that is so dominant in the wellness space.
Hardships can either be a barrier or a catalyst. Instead of allowing my grief to overtake me, I chose to channel the emotions into a more positive outlet. Within 4 months of her passing, I was certified as a personal trainer and the owner of Fit Enough.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello everyone! I am Dominique Landry. I am an advocate for making fitness (health) accessible to everyone. I do that by creating an environment of inclusivity and celebration of who we are as individuals in this space. I am known for my unfiltered approach to fitness. You will not see perfect angles, filtered or contorted videos, or perfection because that is not reality. I have a deep love for people and my passion is to meet them where they are, and support them in building a sustainable lifestyle of wellness.
I work with both corporations and individuals to create the “right” goals, backwards plan actionable steps, and stay accountable to achieve the goals. As a fitness coach and certified personal trainer, I enjoy sharing both motivational tips and easy to follow along workouts. We partner with corporations for experiential wellness activations at events and conferences as well as speaking engagements. At the top of the year, you will be able to follow along with our new youtube class series.
My goal for any client is to be able to leave me and be successful. I want them to build the proper habits and fly on their own.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I think emotional intelligence is a game changer in my field. You have to understand people on a deep level. You have to know their motivations, their passions, and their triggers. So much of the work we do as wellness experts is a mental connection.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I consider myself a recovering perfectionist. I used to think that I had to be perfect to put myself out there. I would wait on the perfect set of factors, to feel confident to launch something new. I felt that I had to have the perfect criteria on my resume to be successful. The reality is that perfection is an ambiguous concept. As much as we like to think that it is a finite thing, and in certain instances it is, most of the time, as an entrepreneur, it is not. In such a fast paced environment, waiting on “perfection” will mean you miss out on an opportunity. I have found that leaning into my imperfections, and being my authentic self has allowed me to expand my business more. Because I am not worried about perfection, and in the same breath failure, I open myself up to more opportunities.
