We recently connected with Dominique Jordan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Dominique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have a hero? What have you learned from them?
My mom is my hero. She has always endured even through the toughest of times, making it seem effortless. I never fully understood what my mom went through until I became a mother myself. She was an amazing mom and seemed to be born for the job. She worked tirelessly while still making sure dinner was on the table. She supported us in everything we wanted to do, while sacrificing her own dreams. She taught us how to love, and she is one of the reasons why I became an artist.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Dominique Jordan the artist behind Pretty Girl Pour, a visually stunning collection of abstract pieces that take viewers on a journey of self-discovery and empowerment. My work is infused with a powerful message that resonates with everyone who experiences it. I started my creative journey in 2020 during the pandemic, seeking an outlet for my self-expression. What started as a personal endeavor quickly became much more. People were drawn to my work and wanted to pay for it, which was a surreal experience for me. Since then, my art has taken off, with numerous interviews, published works, and hundreds of pieces sold. My work celebrates and represents the black community, giving black women and men a platform to see themselves in a painting like never before. It is a true inspiration and a testament to the power of creativity to connect and empower people. And God is at the center of it all.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Starting a business during the pandemic was a bold move, but one that I took despite the hardships and pain that surrounded me. I lost loved ones and struggled to find the resources I needed for my autistic twins. However, I turned to my art and my faith in God to help me through those difficult times. My art became a welcome distraction and a source of comfort, and I grew tremendously as a person in the process.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Starting from scratch was tough when I began my art journey. However, I refused to let my circumstances hold me back. With some canvases, cheap paint, and water, I found a way to make it work. When I earned my first $165, I knew that I wanted to reinvest it back into my business. So, I upgraded my materials with better paint and canvases. It wasn’t easy, but I remained determined to make my dream a reality.
